It looks like Engadget has gotten a tip that San Francisco's BART is currently running a WiFi trial. If it works, it could be a model for other public transportation systems across the country, meaning you could be surfing the internet on free WiFi during your morning commute. As someone who uses trains and buses often with an iPhone, I'm really excited about this possibility (although it still stings that we don't have free citywide WiFi yet!).

The Metropolitan Transport Authority announced on Wednesday that they would be wiring 277 underground stations in the subway system for cell phone use. According to The New York Times, the cell phone signal will only work in subway stations, as the subway tunnels will not be wired, so commuters can ride in peace. This subway upgrade will start in six downtown Manhattan stations in two years and then when all the glitches are ironed out, Transit Wireless will have four more years to complete the rest of the underground stations.

When Bijan Rezvani realized that his iPhone had fallen down onto subway tracks in New York City, he did the unthinkable, and jumped down onto the tracks to get it. Rezvani, who was on vacation at the time, risked getting crushed by an oncoming train and electrocuted from the third rail, just to save his iPhone. He also had to figure out how to climb back up the side of the Subway ledge, which can be challenging in itself.

This past weekend as I exited the Embarcadero train station here in San Francisco, I noticed this ginormous cell phone recycling station. Upon further inspection (and research), I realized that LG has put up these Ecomobilize cell phone recycling bins in BART stations across the Bay Area to help combat the estimated 130 cell phones that will end up in US landfills this year.
I've already provided some simple ways to go green, but LG is making it really easy with their ecoMobilization movement because you can either drop off your phone, chargers, or accessories at one of these boxes, or text the word ECO to 57895 and reply to the text with your mailing addy.

With all the ways I could keep myself occupied on the train to and from work – like playing games on my DS, my iPhone, and my PSP – I guess I just plain forgot that I had games on my iPod!
I found myself stuck on the train the other morning after just realizing that I forgot not only my DS, but my iPhone too! It was like I was missing an arm I tell you.
