Celebrities and Politicians Honor Steve Jobs at Webby Awards

Famous for its five-word acceptance speeches, last night's Webby Awards honored Steve Jobs in its perfectly succinct fashion. Actors John Hodgman and Justin Long - of the PC and Mac commercials - took the stage, along with Richard Dreyfuss - narrator of the "Here's to the crazy ones . . . " "Think Different" Apple ad - to introduce the video of Hollywood heavyweights, politicians, and even an astronaut, speaking in five-word tributes to the man who changed the world through technology.

Watch as President Obama, Bill Clinton, George Lucas, Bono, Jon Stewart, Buzz Aldrin, and others pay tribute to the late Apple founder.

Geek Out: Who Should Play Steve Jobs in the Blockbuster Biopic?

It was the non-April Fools' joke heard around the Internet: Ashton Kutcher has been selected to play Steve Jobs in an indie film called Jobs. Whether or not you agree with the casting, you have to admit: on the surface, there are some striking similarities. Of course, if you don't agree that Kutcher can pull off the legendary tech innovator on screen, here's something to hold on to: the Sony-backed biopic of Jobs is still a ways off. Which means, there will be more casting news to come for the blockbuster version based on Walter Isaacson's biography.

Jobs is, and has always been, an important part of technology, remaining close to geeks' hearts to this day. If I had my way, Daniel Day-Lewis would be cast in this role already. What about you? Who would you cast in the official biopic of Jobs's life?

Is a Steve Jobs Action Figure Too Much?

While it's been three months since Apple CEO and technology innovator Steve Jobs passed away, two toy manufacturers are already eager to memorialize the man as a toy figurine. The iCEO mini Steve Jobs action figure ($100) from toy companies in icons and Dragon in Dream is scheduled for retail sale at the end of February.

The 12 inch figure is already garnering attention for the convincing look-alike depiction of the man who told us to "Stay hungry, stay foolish." From the black turtleneck to the faded jeans, round glasses and gray beard ever, the action figure doesn't miss a single iconic detail, but is it too much? The Jobs family blocked a toy likeness of Steve from production in 2010, so it's likely this figurine will meet the same response. What's your take on the toy unveiling?

For hundreds of Apple customers, their email to former CEO Steve Jobs regarding customer service or accolades and critiques were actually answered by the man himself. As strange as it may seem for the leader of the country's biggest company to take the time to respond to missive from the public, which he did as documented now in a self-published Kindle book titled Letters to Steve: Inside the Email Inbox of Apple's Steve Jobs ($3) by CNN technology writer Mark Milian.

Anyone that read the Walter Isaacson biography knows that Steve had a firm grasp on even the smaller details of running Apple, so perhaps responding to a few of the many fan (or critic) emails he received should come as no surprise. The book details many circumstances where Steve responded curtly to emails where customers had complained about their wireless carrier's data plans, but it also recounts tales of when the CEO spoke up for the customer. One story details Steve actually calling a customer who had written him about the long wait time to have a computer fixed. Steve Jobs phoned his home apologizing for the delay and to voice appreciation for a customer who supported Apple "in the good times and bad."

True, the book isn't available on iPad, but we'll definitely pick up the Kindle book for a peek at the Apple legend from a customer's perspective.
