One Sexy, One Green: Sprint Pushes Out Two New 4G LTE Phones at CES

Sprint customers will soon have a wider range of choices when it comes to phone selection. The company announced two new phones at the Consumer Electronics Show this week, one with an advanced OS, the other with a green thumb. Galaxy Nexus
You've heard its name before. Samsung's Galaxy Nexus is one blazing-hot phone that you should definitely keep an eye on. Coming with 4G LTE speeds and Google's Ice Cream Sandwich operating system - which boasts an all new interface, facial recognition, NFC technology, native support for Google Wallet, and lots more - the Galaxy Nexus is a tough act to follow. Not to mention its 4.65-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, and teardrop-shaped bod. Sexy.

LG Viper
The LG Viper may be eco-friendly - its casing is made of 35 percent recycled plastics and comes with an energy-efficient charger - but that doesn't mean it's boring as dirt. The Viper is a 4G LTE phone, and comes with a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, two cameras (one 5MP rear-facing and one VGA front-facing), and a nice 4-inch WVGA NOVA display. Plus, you can expand your on-board memory up to 32GB with your own microSD card.

Sprint Offering Unlimited Data For iPhone 4S

You'll soon have more options when deciding which wireless carrier to choose from if you're grabbing up a new iPhone 4S. Sprint officially announced its iPhone pricing plans today, making it the third provider (alongside AT&T and Verizon) for Apple devices. You can preorder an iPhone 4 now and the iPhone 4S starting tomorrow, Oct. 7, and both phones will be available on Oct. 14 or 15, depending on availability. Preorders will only be taken online.

So what about pricing? Sprint is the only carrier of the three to offer unlimited data plans. In fact, for $79.99 a month, you'll get 450 minutes of talk time, unlimited data (including web browsing, email, apps, and GPS), messaging (including SMS, MMS, and video), plus free calls to any mobile in the US, no matter the carrier. If you want more voice minutes, you can upgrade to a 950-minute plan for $89.99 or a "Simply Everything" plan that gives you unlimited voice, messaging, and data for $109.99.

The iPhone 5's reach is expanding! According to Bloomberg, Sprint will offer unlimited data with the iPhone 5 when it hits shelves this year. This, according to people "close to the matter," makes a stronger case for the rumors that say Sprint will be getting the iPhone 5, but also offers stiff competition for both AT&T and Verizon who have done away with their unlimited data plans over the course of the last year.

Are You Buying Into the 3D Trend?

Sprint announced the availability of its new HTC EVO 3D ($200) smartphone today, which comes with 3D technology. Not only can you create 3D videos with the dual 5MP cameras on the back of the phone, but you can also stream and watch 3D movies glasses-free. The phone itself comes with impressive specs even if you take out the 3D aspect (a 4.3-inch 3D HD display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, Android 2.3, and 4G speeds), but I'm wondering how often users would actually take advantage of the 3D screen. Thankfully, the phone is still reasonably priced, so getting your hands on one shouldn't be a problem.

Now that there are 3D features being built into everything from TVs to phones, tablets, portable gaming consoles, and pocket camcorders, are you buying into the trend?

Sprint Offers Free Google Voice Integration, Including Your Number

Sprint announced this morning that it would be the first wireless company to fully integrate Google Voice into its lineup of CDMA phones. Earlier this year, Google announced the ability to port your mobile number to Google Voice, and now Sprint is offering this service free of charge. Sprint customers can now use their mobile number on Google's service and reap all the benefits of Google Voice sans the $20 porting fee, and any service complications that come with porting a number outside of a wireless company.

Sprint says that you should be able to transfer your mobile number to Google Voice in just minutes, and it is available starting today.

How-To: Turn Your iPod Touch Into a Phone

If you're on a budget, a data-heavy smartphone package may not be the best situation for your pocketbook (especially now that both Verizon and AT&T have changed their data and text messaging packages), but sacrificing efficiency for a dumbphone may not be an option either. Thankfully, you have a third option: an iPod Touch. If you think that an iPod Touch can't suffice for a cheap alternative to a full-fledged iPhone, you may be surprised. Check just two ways you can function on the fly with an iPod Touch as your cellphone.

Apps and WiFi - Your iPod Touch may be WiFi-only, but that doesn't mean you can't make calls. Apps like Skype and Fring will allow you to make calls over a connection, while Google Voice will even let you get voicemail messages, send SMS text messages, and forward calls from your home line to your new (albeit slightly jimmy-rigged) cell.
