Harrods' In-Store LED Light Display Tantalizes the Tastebuds

If you've ever been to London, visiting Harrods - one of the world's most famous department stores - is an experience in itself. Well now there's something else to tempt your eyes in this gigantic department store. . . an array of 3D-lighting window displays created by The Anemix - a Chilean lighting company.

Cool Hunting discusses how this six-panel lighting system was created for Harrods' in-store "Senses" campaign to mimic the human senses. The window displays will be up until March 28, when the Senses campaign officially ends. Have a peek at more images below.

LG Unveils Its First-Ever Netbook

I'm sensing a trend here. Just recently we heard about Dell computers developing an Android handset, and now LG Electronics - a company mainly known for its cell phones and televisions - has sexy new slim portable hard drives and its first-ever netbook! Note to self: companies are branching out into all gadget areas!

The LG X120 has already debuted in other countries, but it's said to be making its way to the US before the holidays. What's so great about this netbook compared to all of the others on the market? Well, it only weighs 2.8lbs (which is on the lighter scale of netbooks), it features a 160GB hard drive, a 10.1-inch screen, LED backlighting, and it comes in stylish white. Not to mention, it fits most budgets, coming in at $180 with a 2-year AT&T data plan.

Geeky Do-It-Yourself Projects in Honor of National DIY Day

Crazy, Awesome, Geeky Computers Spotted at a Live Concert

I'm a big live music fan, as evidenced by my love of websites for finding live music near me and my dislike of tech-related distractions like texting during shows. While at a concert last week, I stood behind the most impressive sound and lighting boards that I have ever seen!

The lighting computers on the left were operated with touchscreens. There were at least eight different screens, and watching the technician hop from computer to computer changing the lighting as the show went on was mesmerizing. Equally impressive: the sound board, on the right. I wish I could have gotten a tiny bit closer, but check out all of the knobs, switches, and colored lights. I can't pretend I know what any of them control (unless there's a master volume dial), it's interesting to watch. At times I found myself more captivated by the lighting and sound techs than the actual concert!

Access Store Coupons on Your iPhone With the Yowza App

With the holidays right around the corner, I'm not only starting to think about shopping, but I'm also thinking of creative ways to save. Yesterday, I told you about ten websites that will help you save some money on gifts, and today it's all about Yowza!!, an iPhone and iPod Touch app that will show you all of the store coupons within a mile or as far as 15 miles from where you are shopping (which makes sense why it has two exclamations after its name!).

Once you download this free app, open it and you will see all of the coupons applicable to your location, or you can type in a store name to see what's available. And if an offer includes a bar code, just have the cashier scan the barcode, right from your phone. No coupon clipping, no paper, no hassles - I die!

Are You More Tech Savvy Than Your Boss?

Have you found yourself in this situation? Your boss is either a bit of a technophobe or just doesn't understand how email/her BlackBerry/the office scanner works and asks for your help every time she turns on the device? One writer at Marie Claire confesses she has to help her boss with even the most mindless tech issues - and she's not alone. After swapping war stories, the writer and her friends doubled over with laughter from tales of bosses adding "www." to the front of email addresses, trying to use the computer's calculator function by tapping the numbers as if they were on an ATM screen, and the inability to silence a cell-phone ring.

It makes sense; many of our superiors rose through the ranks working in far less technical environments. (Can you imagine working without a computer!?) But it's still a strange feeling. As the writer says, "Aside from technology issues, I'm not used to teaching my boss something she doesn't know."

Do You Text During Concerts or Other Shows?

The other night, I went to a concert with a few of my friends. After the initial bag check and ticket scan from security, we saw large signs at the entrance to the venue reading, "The artists ask that you set your phones to vibrate and refrain from texting and other cell phone use during the performance." While I'm used to signs asking concert-goers not to take photos or videos during the show, this was the first ban on texts or cell phone use I'd seen during a concert. The reasoning behind the ban makes sense, but I wondered how strictly it could be enforced in a crowded venue.

Surprisingly, it was enforced by the venue's staff - I was totally busted when I absent-mindedly pulled my phone out of my pocket! Also surprisingly, concert-goers respected the texting rules. I'll have to admit, though I'm guilty of during-show texting, it was nice to enjoy a concert without the constant glow of cell phone screens from around the room. I'm used to seeing the polite no-texting signs displayed in movie theaters (and soon anti-WiFi paint could make texting impossible), but I'm on the fence about a similar ban during live shows. What do you think?

Sprint Debuts Cheeky New Desperate Housewives Ads

Companies and TV networks are getting quite clever when it comes to creating commercials that blend well with the show it's airing with. We already know that people aren't watching commercials during popular shows, so it makes sense that companies are using some smart tactics to get people to watch - and not fast forward through - its commercials. Sprint is doing just that by teaming up with Desperate Housewives to launch seven commercials that were actually written and directed by Desperate Housewives employees. Here's the first one, which I actually saw because I was fooled to thinking it was apart of the show! Gotta love the racy text message and Palm Pre cameo.

People Aren't Watching Commercials During Popular Shows

TV networks, don't hate me - but I barely ever watch commercials. This is probably because my DVR is always full, so whenever I do watch a show, I feel the need to quickly get through it as fast as possible so I can delete it and move on to the next one!

A majority of you said that you occasionally watch commercials even with a DVR, but did you know that nearly all shows that won Emmys this year are more likely to have their commercials skipped over? That's right, according to the New York Times, 30 Rock was the only exception among the group (which was blamed on NBC's creative ad placements).

Why does this happen? Well, Todd Juenger, TiVo's vice president for research and measurement, seems to think that people don't want to sit through commercials of hit shows they are really wrapped up in. . . which totally makes sense.

Where do you stand on this? Do you fast-forward through commercials during shows that you are completely sucked into? And if you don't have a DVR - but hate commercials - here's how you can skip over ads using a standard remote.

Twitter Geo-Location Functionality Arriving This Week?
