It's happened: America's favorite Tina Fey character - Sarah Palin, former Republican Vice Presidential nominee - has joined Twitter.

With the handle AKGovSarahPalin, Palin jumped on the social phenomena the other day and has started posting things like Alaska's swine flu status and her staff being misquoted.

Interesting; she always seemed like the more tech-forward of the pair (having been spotted with her PC laptop on vacay) of her and her former running mate, John McCain, but the man who once said he didn't know how to use a computer has been on Twitter for months.

The Governor of Alaska and former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin was far away from Alaskan winds last week as she basked in the Miami sun, while taking a break from the Republican Governor's Conference. Considering she will be playing a big role in the future of our country, it's no wonder she was already back to business - poolside naturally - with her Dell Inspiron laptop. Hopefully she has a new email account that's got maximum security and is set up with a tricky password. Considering she hasn't had to disconnect from technology like Present-elect Barack Obama, she better enjoy every minute she can surfing the web.

I can't tell you enough how important email and online security is! I've been a little obsessed with the recent Sarah Palin email hacking scandal, but have put off saying much about it - until now. The suspected hacker - a 20-year old University of Tennessee student, and son of state representative Mike Kernell - was seen in front of the Grand Jury on Tuesday, and was let go without an indictment. Although there aren't many details as to what was or was not found, I suspect that the search for the real hacker continues.

Although hacking into anyone's personal account is a violation of the law and should be prosecuted accordingly, what really makes me uncomfortable is knowing how easy it was for the hacker to break into her account! Just by guessing a few password reset questions and some research on Wikipedia, they were in. I've talked in length about protecting your log-ins, but it's only a few security questions that separate hackers from your personal email when a password reset has been requested. Be diligent in keeping those questions and passwords hard to guess, and you won't have to worry about your emails displayed on the web, or your identity being stolen!

Biggest Headlines of 2008: Obama's Forbidden BlackBerry Love

With the newest President-elect easily being the most tech savvy in history, of course he's going to rock both a BlackBerry and an iPhone to keep his finger on the pulse of the nation. But with the countdown to his inauguration ticking away, Obama is still trying to negotiate a way to keep (and use) his precious BlackBerry while President, despite security concerns that come along with sending and receiving private emails - we all remember Sarah Palin's email hacking debacle, no?

Whatever the outcome, Barack Obama will still have his iPhone, no matter how elusive it's been so far. Oh, but since he is going to be the president, I think it's high time that he upgrades that baby to a 3G.

Do You Trust Wikis?

Today John McCain announced he has picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. In its morning broadcast, NPR reported that McCain's choice showed up on Wikipedia (and the AP) before it had been officially confirmed as fact.

This isn't exactly an irregular event in wiki world, considering the content is created by millions of users, but it says a great deal about the power of the Internet. In the hours following the official announcement, Wikipedia users frantically updated and edited Palin's entry, adding nasty descriptive words after her name (I took a screenshot of one, but it's honestly so lowbrow I don't want to share it).

I use wikis as one of my first stop spots to learn about people and random topics, but I can't say I take anything I read as verifiable fact. How and when do you trust wikis?
