I've never suffered from "Camera Strap Hand" and am not exactly sure that it exists, but I also can't say that my SLR's camera strap is the most comfortable thing I wrap around my hand.

In any case, this Camera Wrist Strap ($17) from Etsy sure does look cozy with its faux-fur lining.

The happy print reminds me of another camera strap I've seen from Etsy, and it also looks way more comfy than a seat belt!

Geek Tip: Remember Optimum Camera Settings For SLRs

Learning to shoot amazing photos on an SLR doesn't come overnight. Sometimes all it takes is a lot of experimentation, sometimes someone teaches you, and sometimes you get a great tip.

Have you scored once on shooting photos or a series of photos where the lighting and settings all came together and you got gorgeous results? You can replicate those results, and you don't have to have written anything down or memorized it.

Each of your digital photos will tell you what most of the used settings were - just click Apple + i (or right click and 'Get Info') on the file (that is, if you use iPhoto). Under More Info, the F-stop and shutter speed (on your camera) you used correspond to FNumber and Exposure Time, respectively.

To see how to get more settings in iPhoto, just read more.

Additionally, if you're using iPhoto, you can right click on the photo, click Show Photo Info, and you'll get the aforementioned settings plus the ISO.

Re-use those settings under similar circumstances (and you can adjust your settings from here using the old ones as a guide), and you're all set.

This is great for amateurs who are just getting used to their SLR, and even for more seasoned users who notice they shot some photos spectacularly once and want to do it again.

Do You Have an SLR?

No product is recession proof, but it's interesting to know that the economy had not yet affected sales of high-end cameras known as SLRs (which stands for single-reflex lens, FYI). Until now, that is - analysts are predicting that SLRs are also about to see an economy-induced drop in sales.

Bad news aside, let's focus on the product at hand - fabulous SLRs. I have a Canon digital SLR, and have always thought of someone's first SLR as a signal of their coming into a serious interest in photography, since you can achieve the kind of quality and artful results you just can't get with any point and shoot camera. And once you convert? You're hooked, and it's new lens and photography tip hunting for you.

So whether it's a vintage film SLR or a modern digital SLR, tell me: do you have an SLR?

Camera Wrist Strap Keeps Your SLR Safe and Close to You

You won't need my geek tip for wrapping your camera strap around your hand if you get one of these Camera Wrist Straps from Etsy.

It looks like it gives you less slack in the strap, which would keep it closer and prevent the chance (or paranoia) that your camera will tumble from your grasp, out of the strap, and onto the floor.

The seller Phat Straps makes them in a variety of patterns and only charges $17 (cute, and good for your peace of mind, too).

Learn How to Use a Canon Rebel Digital SLR

Maybe the geek gods will be answering your prayers this Christmas by popping a new SLR digital camera under the tree. Or maybe you already have one of the most popular SLRs on the market today - a Canon Rebel digital cam - and you're still trying to learn all of its bells and whistles. Pentax Debuts a Winter White SLR

It's beginning to look a lot Christmas in the tech-world, what with the profusion of white gadgets giving way to this, Pentax's White SLR.

The K2000 is going to be limited edition, clearly, and there's no pricing available yet, but CNET notes that the non-white version of this camera is about $800.

The only thing I don't really like is the black detailing, but I think I could live with that just to rock something so unusual. What do you think?

Geek Tip: Use Your Strap to Keep Your SLR Camera Safe

You know your expensive camera needs to be kept safe, but besides the obvious commonsense of wearing your camera strap around your neck, there are other precautions you can take to prevent damage to your snapper.

Wrap it: Holding the camera body in one hand, put your other hand through the strap, then twist that hand around the strap about four times. Grab the other side of the camera body with that wrapped hand. This makes it so that if someone bumps into you or you trip, your falling camera will just slowly unravel, giving you a chance to grab it. Whereas if you just had your hand through the strap, it would slip off your hand and hit the ground before you had a chance to do anything about it.

When setting your camera down, you generally always want to put your camera in the middle of any table. If it has to be near an edge, make sure you flip the strap up over the camera body instead of letting it dangle off the table or surface.

You'd think this was common sense, but I see people doing this all the time and it's painful to me. Be a pal next time you see someone's strap dangling, and flip the strap up over the body.
