Although we're already talking about back to school and hot new gadgets for Fall, I know there are still some families trying to squeeze in some last minute road trips before Summer comes to a close. If that's the case for you, and you just so happen to have some lil ones joining you, I've picked a few of my favorite apps you may want to have handy while cruisin' down the I-95. And be sure to check out lilsugar for some helpful apps in general for parents of toddlers and older children.

On a recent episode of How I Met Your Mother, Marshall and Ted decided to take a road trip to Chicago, while leaving Lily back at Crumpet Manor. While the guys were gone, Marshall called Lily several times to apologize for taking off without letting her know. Luckily for her (and him!), she was so caught up in her relaxing treatments that she didn't even know he was calling (even though her phone was on vibrate).

You're probably wondering if you read the title correct — yes, it does say BlackBerry! If I'm not talking about iPhone apps to use while traveling, to take on road trips with kids, ones to use for entertaining guests, then I'm talking about iPhone radio apps and handy camera apps. Needless to say, it's usually all about the iPhone.

Remember when the documentary about the two friends who decide to travel from Seattle to Boston at 10 MPH by using a segway? Well fast forward a year and a half later, and the movie 10 mph is not only complete, but it's available for your viewing pleasure, for free, on YouTube. Not only is it entertaining to watch a guy with a stand-up scooter go across the country, but the best part is watching the craziness that ensues along the way.

Are you heading out of town for the long weekend? I've got my bags packed, but, before I jet off, I've got to make sure those travel websites are bookmarked, my phone is filled with handy apps, and I've brought along my travel-gadget gear. What are you missing?

I'm all about the electric vehicle, so naturally the Peapod Mobility electric car caught my eye. More like a neighborhood people mover than a take-to-the-road-with-the-wind-in-your-hair type of ride, this car's purpose is well served. Perfect for trips to the grocery store, dropping the kiddies off at school, heading to the library, and finding a parking spot downtown.

I've never really been that into laptop cushions, mostly because they remind me of those padded desks I used as a kid on road trips.
They've just never seemed that comfortable — until I spotted the Brada laptop cushion on a trip to Ikea this weekend.
Its comfy half-moon shape would be ergonomic, and easier to use when you just want to sink into your couch — or, as per their staging suggestion, while chillaxin' in bed.

Well, if I actually squeezed it to death, I would kill my PSP. And who would want to do that!? But in all seriousness, I absolutely love Patapon, as it's quickly becoming one of my favorite games to play.
