According to my BF, I'm a brave soul. Why? Cause I took my Rick Roll Halloween costume to the streets and into some of the offices around the Financial District to "roll" some innocent bystanders. What fun is making a Rick Roll Halloween costume if you can't use it?! After a few adjustments to the initial plan (no one wanted to rip the email off the face of the box . . . who knew?!), we were off and running. Check out the "rolling" action in this video. And I'll just say, "You're welcome," now for getting this song stuck in your head for the remainder of the day. Good times!

This year for Halloween I wanted to be something totally geeky, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money. So of course that meant that I had to make my own costume. So to be honest, I don't even remember how I came up with the idea of being a real life Rick Roll, but it must have been lodged in my subconscious from all the "rolls" I've received this year. The best part about this project is that it was inexpensive - my total costs came out to less than $25! And when you are trying to budget for Halloween night spirits (of the liquid kind), that's pretty exciting. How did I do it? I'll tell you, but first you have to gather your materials! Have You Ever Been Rick Roll'd?

Have you ever opened an email or IM from a friend directing you to an "awesome" or "really funny" site, only to click on the link and find yourself rockin' out to a Rick Astley video on YouTube? You may begin thinking to yourself "This isn't really that funny or awesome," then you begin to wonder what happened to you. Wonder no more, my friend, you've just been "Rick Roll'd."

What is Rick Roll'd? Well, also known as "Rick Rolling" or "Rick N' Roll", Rick Rolling is an internet prank in which "roll-ers" disguise a link to a Rick Astley video on YouTube as another video or website (usually consisting of puppies, unconfirmed gaming news, fake presidential updates, or blogs with interesting or funny comments) to the the "roll-ee". Some think it's an attempt at a comeback, but personally, I can't think of a better prank than getting his highly infectious song to repeat in someone's head all day. And apparently, it's catching on. Rick's YouTube vid has had almost seven million hits since it was posted last year. This is definitely something my girl Giggle would appreciate, since it seems she's such a big fan!

Geek Tip: Never Be RickRolled Again

It peaked on April Fool's Day, and now I don't want to be RickRolled ever again. It's high time for a new meme - one that doesn't involve the sentiment that one would never give me up, or let me down.

Let me share with you a way to banish Rick Astley from your eyes and ears, and then let's be done with it, OK?

Just enter your suspected-Rickrolling url into Rickproof and it'll tell you whether the site is at a high or low risk for a RickRoll. I realize that by doing this, you're inviting that dreaded song into your head, but I think that the best offense is a good defense. Good luck out there!

Turn Your YouTube Vids into Your Own Pop-Up Videos

Oh how I miss my old Saturday afternoon VH-1 standby. . .Pop-Up Video. Learning interesting (and somewhat useless) facts about my favorite music videos always made those lazy days pass with ease. If you were a big fan of the pop-up bubbles that danced in your screen right along with Rick Astley's hips, then you'll love the newest feature on YouTube: Video Annotations.

Despite the boring name, you can make your own pop-up hit with that video you uploaded last week starring you and your buddies LARPing it out in the woods. Control the length, size, and duration that the note boxes appear on the screen for as many useless facts you can provide. Unfortunately, you'll have to do without the bubble popping sound for now. But hopefully they'll add that feature soon, cause it's just not the same without it.
