It's an App World and We're All Just Living In It

Yesterday at the CTIA Wireless conference in Las Vegas, RIM officially announced their own version of Apple's App Store, called App World. BlackBerry users can rejoice and download apps like Facebook, AIM, Pandora, and other useful apps right from their smartphone using their PayPal account.

Inside the App World, you can search apps by most popular, category, and highest rated. Plus, now that you can stream TV shows on your BlackBerry, who needs another device? And the best part is, you'll only see apps that are compatible with your model, so you won't be accidentally downloading apps you can't use.

However, you will need a BlackBerry that's running OS 4.2 or higher to download. Check out more screenshots of the App World over on Crave.

Apple to Dominate Cell Phone Sales This Summer

With Apple's iPhone 3G set to make its entrance into this world next Friday, financial experts are already making predictions about companies that will be the biggest movers and shakers in the smartphone market over the next few months.

According to Electronista, a study conducted by RBC Capital Markets indicates that consumers looking to purchase a new phone are seriously eyeing up the iPhone 3G. Of the 3,600 participants in the study, only 35 percent said they would purchase a new iPhone back in March, unlike the 56 percent now.

Reasons why they changed their minds? The drop in price of the iPhone, the built-in GPS mapping, enterprise email and third party applications. Yes, yes, yes and yes, I know exactly what you mean! What about you guys? If you don't have an iPhone, are you now thinking about getting one?

In case you happened to miss it, here it is in all of its vibrant glory. You can also check it out on the BlackBerry website!

RIM Makes Wi-Fi BlackBerry Smartphone Official

Okay, so we already told you WiFi was coming to the new RIM BlackBerry, but it's finally official.

The device, which RIM called the "first dual-mode cellular and Wi-Fi BlackBerry Smartphone" in a press release, will be thinner than the BlackBerry Pearl and feature a full QWERTY keyboard, large and bright display (320 x 240) and user-friendly trackball navigation system.

The BlackBerry 8820 also includes built-in GPS (Global Positioning System), RIM's latest media player enhancements, and a expandable memory slot that can support current and future generations of microSD memory cards. Most importantly, the device will combine EDGE/GPRS/GSM cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity for data access and voice support through UMA (unlicensed mobile access) for fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) service offerings from various wireless carriers around the world.

RIM Opens Up the Floodgates to BlackBerry App Development

Lots of big exciting news happening in the BlackBerry world right now. Not only is the public beta for the SlingPlayer Mobile officially available for BlackBerry users, but RIM is now taking submissions for app developers.

The App store is rumored to be launching this Spring, so developers will need to get busy whipping up some amazing and handy applications!

If you would like to submit an application, just fill out an application from here.

T-Mobile Sidekick Owners May Not Get Their Data Back

Over the weekend, T-Mobile experienced a server failure from its data server provider Danger, which is a subsidiary of Microsoft (umm, I'm already suspicious of a company that has a server named Danger!). Servers go down all the time, but T-Mobile has announced that it is unable to recover personal data stored on Sidekicks.

T-Mobile is urging Sidekick customers to keep their devices turned on, keep it connected to a power source, and to not reset it or remove the battery. Unlike BlackBerry owners that can backup their data using RIM's desktop manager or with iTunes for the iPhone, Microsoft didn't have a backup program or export tool for the Sidekick, which means many Sidekick owners are furious with T-Mobile right now.

Did you lose your Sidekick data from this major outage catastrophe?

Where's Waldo Gets Turned Into a Video Game!

It's been awhile since I've been this overjoyed about a new video game, but it's not everyday you find out that one of your favorite childhood books is going to be turned into a video game! Growing up, my sisters and I had the entire Where's Waldo series of books as we'd flip each page trying to find Waldo - wearing his signature black-rimmed geeky glasses, red and white striped shirt, blue pants and matching hat - hiding within colorful illustrations that kept us just as amused as Waldo himself.

Not much info on this game release, but it is said to be like an animated version of the books and will be released on both the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS (woot!).

Update: The game is now available! You can get from here for $28.

Just One More Week. . . For the BlackBerry Bold That Is

Thankfully a new date of October 27 seems to be a "concrete release date." Fingers-crossed, in one week from today, the Bold will be officially announced once and for all.
