Peter Rojas Talks RCRD LBL and Fancy Haircuts

Peter Rojas showed up in the pages of the June/July issue of ReadyMade to talk about RCRD LBL, his free-music website. This endeavor, combined with his status as the founder of both Engadget and Gizmodo, puts him in a place of deep respect for me, but also - and I'm trying to make sure I say this with great dignity and professionalism - Crush Status. Our geeky Romeo is taken, but at least it's to a worthy match: Green, geeky gal Jill Fehrenbacher.

Getting back to business, Rojas talks about the need for RCRD LBL because "people in the music industry try to pretend that the rules of the Internet don't apply to them," but Rojas saw that he could give away free songs as long as it was subsidized by advertising. RCRD LBL pays the (finely edited) artists directly, so they can offer "great music every day," and. . . Oh, what was I saying? I got lost in those brown eyes again.

Website of the Day: RCRD LBL

Want some totally free MP3 downloads? From bands you've actually heard of and love? The catch is, there is no catch. Peter Rojas of Engadget has created the website RCRD LBL for anyone to download free and completely legal music - the bill is simply footed by the ads on the site. RCRD LBL features bands like Spoon, Sufjan Stevens, and Arcade Fire for your non-budget-busting enjoyment. And if you want to test out the songs before you download them, or if you just fear commitment, you're also welcome to stream RCRD LBL Radio.

To learn how to post your favorite websites to our Website of the Day group, read more.

I know that this long list looks scary, but trust me, once you get the hang of it, it'll be a snap the second time around.

First of all, join the Website of the Day group.

Click the pink "Share" menu on the top left side of the page.

Choose "Blog" and “Regular Post.”

Give your story a “Title.”

Fill in the “Body” with a link to your favorite website and the reasons why you love it.

Click “Next."

Choose the audience for your story to “Website of the Day” in the drop-down menu

Add keyword(s) (for example mine for this photo was "Website of the Day").

Change channel to “Technology and Gadgets.”

Fill in tag field with relevant tags.

Click “I’m done” to submit content.

So join the Website of the Day group and share information about all your favorite sites! Yours just might end up on the geeksugar homepage!
