Socialize Your Feet With Twitter, Firefox Sneaks

I'm a big-time Twitter fan, but I'm on the fence on whether or not I'd rock these Twitter shoes from Brass Monki (around $400). Coming with the classic colors and Twitter bird, these sneaks seem to be made for men but can satisfy the geekiest cravings for the ladies; just size down for smaller feet. Biggest problem - what would I wear with them? I guess I'd have to recruit FabSugar for some help.

Since the shop does some other awesomely themed kicks (Firefox being another), it's worth a look for the novelty of it all alone . . . or you could just click through this slideshow to see some of my geeky faves.

Rumor Mill: Droid 2 Star Wars Edition Coming in August?

We've been talking a lot about when Android 2.2 will be hitting our favorite Droid handsets but haven't really mentioned the rumors and leaks of the Droid 2 . . . until now, that is. And you'll understand why when you hear this bit of news from the rumor mill: the Droid 2 is supposedly launching on Aug. 12 but will be widely available on Aug. 23 and is said to be coming stocked with a 5MP camera, 8GB of on-board storage, a quick 1GHz processor, and Android 2.2. Great, so what's the big deal? Well hold on to your hats - a tipster is reporting that there will be a Star Wars edition of the Droid 2 coming with a white R2-D2 design on the back. Wow.

The word "Droid" is already trademarked to George Lucas, so I suppose it was only a matter of time before Motorola and Verizon partnered up with the sci-fi giant to create a line of geektastic smartphones. I'm really hoping this tip is solid. I want one!

R2-D2 Backpack: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

It's all about wearing this R2-D2 Backpack ($65) with a completely straight face as you make your way to your destination. I would personally pair it with a grown-up trench coat just to make passersbys' heads explode just a little more. Oh to be queen of irony!

I don't care how old you are, a Star Wars fan is a Star Wars fan and I can't hate the idea of this backpack, but would I wear it? Not sure.

With the introduction of the R2-D2 mailboxes across the U.S., and then with the R2-D2 cameo appearance on Dancing With the Stars, I can officially say that R2-D2 was almost as popular in 2007 as the iPhone! R2-D2 Makes A Rare Dancing With The Stars Appearance

Wow wa wee wha did I get quite the surprise when I tuned into Dancing With The Stars last night. Who knew that former N'Sync boy band member Joey Fatone was such a Star Wars fan?! Joey and his dance partner Kym Johnson surprised everyone with a tango dance routine to the tune of the Star Wars theme. They even had a little lightsabers fun during rehearsals and brought in R2-D2 for a guest appearance! The dance started with Joey wearing a cloak like a Jedi while holding a green lightsaber. Kim also dressed to impress with her Princess Leia skin clad costume. I thought the tango/Star Wars combo was pulled off remarkably well. Did you happen to catch it? What are your thoughts?

R2-D2 Mailbox Sighting! Reader Responds

After hearing the United States Postal Service has decided to pay homage to the 30th Anniversary of the Star Wars series by covering select mailboxes with R2-D2 shells I went on a hunt in San Francisco in search of pimped out mailboxes.

I searched and I searched, but it was all in vain. Luckily, msugar and her friend Anika spotted the kitschy mailboxes near their office in Oregon. Apparently, Anika's first reaction was "where's C-3PO?"

Mailboxes Get A R2-D2 Makeover

I can't imagine a more flattering compliment for the ultimate geek franchise than being commemorated on a mailbox. Oh wait, geeks don't send snail mail. Regardless, 2007 is the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars release and the United States Postal Service has decided to pay homage to the series by covering select mailboxes with R2-D2 shells.

Word is the robot post boxes will coincide with a new Star Wars stamp, which is to be launched later this month as well. "The rumors are no more!" said TheForce.net, claiming they should already be out in select cities. I have to say, I kept my eyes peeled all weekend in San Francisco but didn't see a thing. Perhaps I should look again before my next pint of Guinness.
