Geek Out and Design to Win Your Own Flip Camera!

Last week we introduced you to our exciting Design and Win Flip HD Mino contest so we thought we'd share our geeksugar design to help give you some inspiration. You all know how much we love geeking out with your video camera and capturing your friends and family on film, so why not decorate the video camera with one of our own favorite personal photos! Check out our design here and get started on creating your own.

To refresh your memory, all you have to do is go to the site, design your own Flip with a photo or design of your choice, and email it in to us at flipcontest@sugarinc.com! The next few weeks we'll be showing you cameras designed by our different editors to get the ball rolling. The contest runs from Dec 12-26, with the finalists posted on geeksugar on December 29 and the winners will be announced December 31. It's the perfect way to kick off 2009 with a brand new toy to document all your adventures.

Fabulous Pure Flip Video Camera

There's been a lot of talk across the blogosphere about Pure's new Flip Video Camera, but I wasn't sure about it until I got a chance to test it out. How do I feel now? I think it's called love.

I took the Flip Video to one of my sister's dance performances last week and even though I was sitting about 20 rows back, I managed to clearly capture both the dance and the music. After I figured out how to subtly turn the camera on while the crowd was clapping (it makes a tiny beep which seemed to really bother my uptight neighbor), I just pointed it at the stage, pressed the red record button and voilà! I am the next Sofia Coppola.

The ultra series, pocket-size cam comes in five chic colors including lime green, pink, orange, black and the traditional white and includes built-in software for direct uploading to AOL and YouTube. Pure Digital Kicks Off Massive Camcorder Giveaway

Starting today, Pure Digital Technologies will be launching a one million Flip Video Camcorder giveaway to benefit nonprofits worldwide. The Flip Video Spotlight program came about when former President Bill Clinton approached Pure Digital, requesting that video be used to shed light on world issues that need to be addressed. With a million pocket-sized camcorders that have built-in software for direct uploading to YouTube, the possibilities are endless for what can be achieved with this initiative.

"We believe video can help change the world,” said Jonathan Kaplan, Chairperson and CEO of Pure Digital Technologies in a press release. "Non-profit organizations do incredible everyday work that the public rarely sees. Imagine the impact that video would make if every on-the-ground staff member or volunteer had both a camcorder and the ability to broadcast their message to the world.”

Pure Digital will distribute up to one million Flip Video Camcorders to nonprofits and other qualified non-governmental organizations (NGOs) over the next five years, starting this December. These groups will be able to use video as a tool to highlight the need for their services, better communicate with their donors, and broadcast their accomplishments to the world. Qualified nonprofits and NGOs can sign up to purchase Flip Video Spotlight Kits at Flip Video Spotlight and will receive the necessary tools to begin using video technology effectively. The massive camcorder giveaway kicks off today at the Clinton Global Initiative where the camcorders will be distributed to each of the current and former heads of state and other leaders. Paris Can't Keep Her Hands Off the Gadgets

The queen of cell phones, Miss Paris Hilton, sure does know her way around a BlackBerry keypad, but who knew she was so intrigued in other gadgetry goods? While at the Sundance Film Festival, Paris chatted with Virgin America's director of in-flight entertainment and partnerships, Charles Ogilvie, about the new in-flight, seat-to-seat instant messaging keyboard. She told Ogilvie that she can't wait to try out the new high-tech entertainment system on an upcoming trip to New York and on the airline’s debut of in-flight WiFi, which will happen sometime this year.Paris was also spotted at a Philadelphia mall a week later promoting her new movie Hottie and the Nottie and showing off her photo skills with a Flip digital camcorder. . . . Now I wonder if she uploads herself, too?!

Kodak's Zi8 Camcorder: Not to Be Confused With the Flip

After the success of the Zi6 pocket recorder, Kodak has decided to improve their line-up of camcorders by introducing the Zi8, which can easily be compared to Pure Digital's latest - the Flip Ultra HD. Available in red, black, and blue for only $180, the Zi8 offers 1080p recording, a 2.5-inch LCD display, a SD card slot, Facebook functionality, and can capture 5-megapixel stills. Kodak even announced that it'll be able to capture video in low-lighting conditions, something the Flip hasn't been able to do. I'd have to get my hands on one to see if it's better than the Flip in terms of usability and quality, but I'm definitely liking what I'm hearing!
