Project Runway Coming to the Wii

Can't get enough Project Runway? You're in luck! Get ready to "make it work" in your living room: the hit reality series will soon be coming to a Nintendo Wii near you. Variety reports that the game will follow the same format as the show, with players competing as fashion designers. You'll be able to design clothes and accessories for models, style their hair and makeup, and then strut your stuff on the catwalk yourself using the Wii balance board.

Both host Heidi Klum and her fashion-expert sidekick Tim Gunn are expected to be involved in the game, but no further details have been released. The game won't hit stores until next year, but I'm sure it'll be completely fierce!

Wonder what happened to your favorite former Project Runway contestants?

Here's one who's published a book that'll look perfect on my shelf. Second season contender Diana Eng's new book is titled Fashion Geek: Clothes Accessory Tech, and it's full of how-to projects that combine tech and fashion, like a hat that integrates headphones. The official release date is next month, but is available for pre-order on Amazon.

And this isn't Eng's first foray into tech/fashion; she won the Yahoo Hack Day contest with her project, "Blogging in Motion" in 2006.

Do You Have a Sewing Machine?

Watching Project Runway every week gives me the itch to pull out my own sewing machine, no matter how dusty it is! I'm getting inspiration from the show and from the geeky crafts I'm constantly seeing.

I've also noticed an influx lately of new sewing machines that are simpler, with big graphic buttons (dare I say more Apple-like?) - my own is a Singer, and I truly believe that I was as willing to tackle learning how to use my sewing machine because of my tech-savviness. I'm no stranger to manuals and complicated inputs, and when something breaks, I don't fear opening up my machine and going to town.

My hope is that the predicted home sewing revolution (prediction: Mine) comes about partly because of Project Runway, and partly because a generation of geeky girls is not afraid to buy and learn a foreign piece of machinery.

Chloe has launched an exclusive line of laptop and gadget cases with Pacific Design. It features versatile cases for iPhones, iPods, laptops, popular phones (like RAZRs) and portable DVD cases.

I like the cases because they are colorful without being loud and obnoxious (they are covered in plain pinstripes and checkers and colorful pink, yellow and white retro prints.) They range in price from $19.99 for phone cases to $29.99 for laptop cases, which when compared to other designer gadget cases is a total steal. (Thanks for the tip, Fabsugar!)

Leather Charging Station: Love It or Leave It?

Remember Stella from Project Runway who loved to work with and talk about "leatha"? She'd love this.

Neiman Marcus has this Leather Charging Station that would make any PETA advocate furious. I can admire a leather accessory, but this is a little much - the texture alone is a little too, uh, authentic.

But I could be missing the point - is this, at $175, the ultimate in luxury geek? At least you're tidy and organized.

And Stella, girl, where are you? Are you into this leatha charging hub?

Do You Appreciate When Services Apologize for Being Down?

I was throwing a hissy fit yesterday when I saw that Netflix had still not sent me my Mad Men DVD, and then an hour later I got this in an email, explaining their outage. It wasn't the only outage this week: Gmail went down for a while on Monday, and then the next day, the Gmail Blog posted an explanation.

I gotta be honest: I'm not used to this kind of customer service. The transparency and honest "we screwed up" apology is not something I'm used to from a service provider; if my cable goes out, Comcast will hardly call me up to say, "Hi, we're so sorry your cable is out. Hope you didn't miss Project Runway!" All in all, I appreciate this straightforward behavior - these emails and blog posts were unexpected and a breath of fresh air, and make me happy to be a customer of Netflix and Gmail. What about you; do you care when you get apology emails like this, or does it not make a difference?

With Project Runway back in action, and Spoonflower finally available to fulfill my textile design fantasies, it's high time I pulled out my sewing machine. Geeky sewing crafts perk me up, and when you can fuse tech and textile, I'm fascinated. Check out this video from Hack a Day, which demonstrates a machine-embroidered LED matrix.

Would You Give Up Sex for Six Months for a Plasma TV?

Six months?! Really?! That's how long HALF of a group of British men surveyed claimed they would give up sex for - for a 50-inch Plasma TV. I balked at the length of six months (both for the sake of believing men would really give it up that long, and also because, well. . .six months?!) Then again, that's 50 inches (insert terrible "size matters" joke here) of beautiful, flat, plasma display. That's 50 inches of Project Runway, Lost, and Gossip Girl.

Maybe I could do it. Maybe. I seem to remember very few of you saying you'd give up sex to keep your cell phone, so I'm doubly curious. Spill it!
