The PSP 3000: Purple, Pink and Turquoise All Over

When the limited edition lilac Hannah Montana PSP 3000 bundle was announced, I couldn't help but go on a bit of a rant about its sexist splash of color - although I don't think throwing Miley Cyrus' alter ego, Hannah Montana, into the mix helped out the situation either. Don't get me wrong, I love color, so the fact that Sony is coming out with a PSP 3000 in pink and turquoise this November, I feel like they've somewhat redeemed themselves. I'll let the pink slide on this one, but the turquoise? Perfection, and it will be available in a LittleBigPlanet bundle. . . total perfection. Are you liking the new colors?

View 5 Photos ›

Will You Buy an Upgraded PSP 3000?

I'm a fan of the PSP. It's got some amazing graphic capabilities, and since one of my favorite games is on the PSP, it's totally handy to have with me when I travel. But if I'm being honest, the PSP does have its drawbacks; most notably being the screen glare! I love that I can watch movies more comfortably than I could with my iPod, but contorting the console to get the best angle while on the go is kind of a bummer.

So the announcement of the spruced-up PSP, called the PSP 3000 – which will hit European markets in October – has me anticipating an upgrade. The $250 dollar PSP 3000 will have an improved LCD screen with reduced glare, so I can play games and watch videos outside comfortably, and will also boast a built-in mic for all those Skype calls I'll be making.

Since I'm still not sure how many of you own a PSP, tell me, will you buy a PSP 3000 when it hits the States?

Source

I have been wanting a PSP, and this seems like a good time to buy.

Daily Tech: Is a Lime Green PSP-3000 in the Making?

A bright lime green SPS-3000 was spotted in the wild at a Sony factory in China. - Joystiq

Netflix is looking for an experienced engineer to lead the gaming platforms team, which means that Netflix might make its way to the Wii and PlayStation 3 . . . eventually. - CrunchGear

A new "solar city" is being planned near Charlotte County in Florida, and will include a 75-megawatt solar plant. - Switched

Planning on getting a new smartphone soon? You may just want to wait, because Palm, Apple, and RIM plan on releasing new phones by the end of June. - Silicon Alley Insider

Not everyone is happy with the second-gen Kindle screen. Many are taking to Amazon forums to talk about their Kindle font issues. - Wired

PSP vs. PSP Go: Which Is Better?

I got the chance to check out LittleBigPlanet on the PSP yesterday, and put it to a head-to-head test on Sony's latest console, the PSP Go. So after fiddling around with both for a few minutes, I asked myself: "Which is better?" It's really hard to say. I mean, you'd think that moving from one PSP to the other would be as simple as moving from the DS to the DS Lite, but then, you would be wrong.

The PSP Go is notably more compact than the PSP, making the controls closer together, which is perfect for smaller, ahem, more feminine or childlike hands. Good marketing ploy perhaps? Either way, the PSP Go has an amazing screen, is 40 percent lighter than the old version, has the same general control layout, 16 GB of on-board memory, and an online shop to download games straight to your console.

But getting down to the nuts and bolts, which of the two PSPs is more comfy to play with? Find out my take when you read more.

Although I love the new screen and portability of the PSP Go (you don't have to carry around any cartridges), I have to admit that playing with the old PSP felt a lot better in my hands. And besides that, the price point is kinda high for a portable console (a whopping $250), and the wireless is not what you'd expect from a device that costs that much (wireless B, really? It's the same as what comes stocked on the PSP-3000). Change isn't always easy, but I thought that Sony would have made it a no-brainer, since they were the only gaming company that released a new console at E3 this year. The PSP Go hits shelves this Fall for $250, so the decision is up to you.
