Special Edition Nylon Zune: Love It or Leave It?

Most critics believe the Microsoft Zune will never measure up to the iPod. Still, you can't say Microsoft isn't trying to earn cool points wherever possible. Nylon Magazine has teamed up with Microsoft to create a limited edition Zune player, available only at Urban Outfitters for $250. The device is limited to a run of 1,000 pieces, and comes in a pretty pink 30GB package that's silk-screened with graphic bling designed by Dani Stahl. It comes pre-loaded with Nylon TV videos, special mp3s and music videos. It's certainly more flashy than the previous plain pink edition. Do you love it?

Incase Nylon Backpack: I May Have to Start Using a Backpack

Even though I think they're useful, I haven't considered owning a backpack, particularly a laptop backpack, since I was in high school. I may have to rethink that stance. Incase's new Nylon Backpack ($100), which fits all MacBooks, is - though quite utilitarian - surprisingly droolworthy.

Maybe it's the color; cyan is my obvious fave (it also comes in burgundy, olive, black, red, and gray) - but what I'm really attracted to is all the organized pockets for all my peripherals and accessories. Does this change your mind about laptop backpacks too?

You could obviously use any old bag to put your peripherals in to travel, but I like the idea of having a dedicated Nylon Media Carryall, like this one from Hayden Harnett‚ especially when said bag is over half off - just $22 - in Hayden Harnett's sample sale.

I like to be able to fit all my stuff in my laptop bag, but sometimes that's just not possible; and hey, the election's over and things could be looking better for the economy, so retail therapy anyone? I know I need some.

Coach Nylon Laptop Sleeve: Love It or Leave It?

Are "nylon" and "posh" mutually exclusive? I kind of thought so, until I saw the Varick Nylon Laptop Sleeve from Coach.

If your laptop is something you're taking to work, its lack of bright, bold pattern puts it in the more professional arena, and the luxe details like leather lining grow it up a little.

What do you think - is the black a nice, chic counterpoint to more crazy laptop sleeves, or is it just too plain to get you to spend $58?

Everyday I fill my laptop bag with gadgets, my cell phone, laptop, wallet and plenty of magazines. Having said that, I can't imagine how a bag made of nylon would be able to handle all that weight! This laptop case by JCrew is an exception to the nylon rule. With its thickness, you could easily mistake it for leather and it also comes with a cute cotton quilted liner for added support. I'm not going to deny the fact that I'm an Incase junkie. The reason being, every Incase product I've owned is durable, made to last, and a nice addition to my wardrobe (or growing tech accessory collection!). All of my favorites like the Nylon Sleeve ($60), Slider Case ($35), Compact Backpack ($80), and Protective Cover ($30) in new hues including mustard yellow, red plum, and graphite are getting me excited for the cooler temperatures to arrive - did I honestly just say that?!

From Birth to Death: My Pinder Laptop Bag Review

Usually when I do a laptop bag review, it's for a bag I've only gotten to carry around for a few days, so this is something different, but probably more useful and realistic - this is a review for my own laptop bag that I bought and paid for myself and have been carrying for the last few months.

I bought the Pinder Thin Laptop Bag for $40 in March (on sale from its usual $58) and they threw in the Vinnie Shoulder Strap for free.

The Thin comes in custom sizes depending on your computer, so I got the one that would fit my MacBook Pro perfectly. Even though the bag's description suggests the pockets for peripherals, when I used the bag, I left them empty. Which is why it was a surprise that the fabric of my bag started ripping just a few months after use.

I've used my Pinder laptop bag a few times a week in the nine months that I've had it, but I would have assumed that the ballistic nylon exterior fabric would have been able to support the shoulder strap's pull (not to mention that the bag is intended for the exact computer I used in it). A few months ago, I noticed the first tears on the outside, which was bad enough because the company touts its "super tough, water repellent, abrasion resistant, ballistic nylon exterior and trim". Yet it was tearing and not only did it look awful, but I worried it would only get worse. Which it did.

Last week, the fabric tore clear up and out - meaning that it pulled the nylon of the pocket out, exposing the thin foam that's supposed to keep my PC safe, and also exposing the computer itself!

I wrote the company this week and included the photos you see here, explaining my predicament. I probably won't be buying another bag from Pinder, considering that my average use of it was hardly as hard-core as its description would have you think it could handle.

I hope to get a refund so I can invest my money in a bag that won't be destroyed in under a year; and maybe I'll have to walk my own talk about making an investment in something that's excellent quality that will last, and more importantly, protect my precious cargo.

My New Laptop Bag: Target's Version of Hayden Harnett's Ibiza

You've heard my gushing about Hayden Harnett's Ibiza, but I was stalling on buying it, even though I've seen it in person and know it's a quality bag; I just hadn't gotten around to justifying the $200 price tag yet.

So when Hayden Harnett revealed its capsule collection for Target, I ran down there, not even expecting to find a laptop bag, just some great accessories. Lo and behold, what did I see? The $50 Flight Tote - an almost exact replica of HH's Ibiza from their regular line (in the image, Target's is on the left).

The differences are obvious for offsetting cost: Target's version is made of light canvas with faux-leather trim; the original is made of a very sturdy nylon and real leather trim. I bought the Flight Tote and have been lugging it to and from work for the past couple of weeks.

I love it for the same reason I loved the Ibiza; I can fit my laptop into the bag's partition intended for it, and put all my other crap (wallet, sunglasses, keys, cell phones) in the other sections of the bag, and - thankfully - my shoulders and back are not aching from carrying everything in one tote.

One thing that's not great for your laptop is how thin the outer fabric and lining is. The lining is a gorgeously printed-silky material, but as thin as silk, so keep in mind it's not going to protect your laptop from dents, if you get into that kind of situation. Since I'm gingerly getting it to and from work, it's fine, but if I were more worried, I'd slip it into a sleeve first, and then put that in the bag (there's plenty of room in the laptop partition to do that, in fact).

There's a long strap on the bag that can be used instead of the double shoulder straps, but it's not so comfortable, since it hangs so long - but, one of my co-workers who does have the real Ibiza has the same exact issue.

So for one big work tote that holds it all - laptop plus life - and is not only stylish, but affordable, I highly recommend the Flight Tote.
