Portable Chic: My Favorite DS Cases

Since Nintendo releases a new DS model every few years or so, I gotta keep mine covered and clean (so I can recycle or donate it later once I upgrade). But really, I just want to add a touch of style to my gaming to show off on the bus, plane, or wherever the need to play strikes. Check out a few of my favorite DS cases, including a few I just recently saw at the Tokyo Game Show in Japan!

In case you missed it, President Obama spoke directly to school children last week, asking them to stay in school and study up for the future. I thought the speech was inspiring, but he did kind of diss my beloved video games. Obama asked the youth of America to not "spend every waking hour in front of the TV or with the Xbox." This could be sound advice, except for the fact that there are plenty of brain-challenging games out there to improve your coordination, smarts, and problem-solving skills. Get ready, get set, because Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party by Ubisoft will be making its way to our hearts and our homes just in time for the holiday season. Designed for the Nintendo Wii and DS, this fun game offers a variety of wacky mini-games that spoof popular culture and test your skill and insane movement talents! Two of my favorite Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party games include the ski hill game where you get to sit on the Wii Balance Board and steer with your butt as you go down a ski slope (as you encounter obstacles and try to gain points) and the dancing game where you get your groove on and follow the moves on the screen with your wiimote to get points!

You can even play co-op or battle your friends simultaneously with up to four players, or go crazy with up to eight players in party mode. Oh, and if that isn't enough, you'll be able to customize your own bunny to give him a unique look. To get an idea about how this game works, check out my video!

Personal Trainer: Cooking Coming to the Nintendo DS!

The first title in Nintendo's Personal Trainer series for the Nintendo DS, Personal Trainer: Cooking, makes whipping up recipes fun and easy! I had the chance to check it out last week in action and I must admit, I'm an avid cook, but with Personal Trainer: Cooking, it's like having your very own personal chef with you in the kitchen! Acting as an interactive cookbook, with this game you can access over 240 recipes from around the world and a private cooking instructor will provide video demonstrations and talk you through any recipe you choose.

As you browse recipes (by ingredients, calorie count, cooking time, difficulty, etc), all you have to do is tap a box to mark ingredients you need to buy and your DS will automatically store them in your in-game shopping list for later. And if your hands get covered with dough or other ingredients, you can use the voice command to continue the steps! This game will be hitting store shelves November 24, although there's no word on pricing just yet. Stay tuned for more titles in this series!

DIY Custom-Painted Purple DS

When Shawn Potts of Portland, Oregon, wanted to get his girlfriend to start playing video games, he decided to give an original Nintendo DS a complete makeover. Shawn took apart the entire DS, sanded each piece, and used two coats of primer to cover all of the parts. Since his girlfriend's favorite color is purple, he went with a metallic sparkling purple to coat the DS parts and finished it off with a clear coat for extra shine. He originally wanted to give it to her as a birthday gift, but it ended up being a Christmas gift. I hope she loved it as much as we do! Scroll down for more images.
