Man Trapped in Elevator Video Becomes an Internet Hit: But Why?

I'm sure you've probably seen this video already, since it's been spreading on the Internet like a wildfire, but if you haven't, here's some background info to bring you up to speed. On Friday October 15, 1999, Nicholas White went outside for a cigarette break while working in New York's McGraw-Hill building (it was 11pm on a Friday). On his way back, the elevator stopped, and he was trapped for 41 hours.

The surveillance camera footage of those horrifying two days has just surfaced on the Internet and it has already been viewed 1.3 million times on YouTube. The video shows White panicking, pacing, trying to sleep and pry the doors apart. According to The New Yorker, who ran an entire article about the ordeal, White said that he feels as though people are so captivated by the video because they wonder what they would have done if it happened to them. I have to admit, after watching the video last week, I think about it every time I step foot in an elevator, even though I'm constantly armed with my cell phone. It also stirs up alot of emotions inside me, including frustration, sadness and hope for White. Why do you think people are so obsessed with this video?

Jack the Giant Killer: Nicholas Hoult Has a Super Green Thumb

Between the enthralling series Once Upon a Time and the awesome-looking upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman, I'm really digging Hollywood's obsession with fairy tales. So it's a great time to show off the trailer for Jack the Giant Killer, which takes a crack at classic story Jack and the Beanstalk. Nicholas Hoult plays Jack, a young farm boy who gets his hands on some magic beans, of which he's warned, "whatever you do, don't get them wet." Naturally, he gets them wet immediately, causing a beanstalk to shoot up from the earth into the heavens - and a fairly ornery giant to show up, and it's up to Jack to save the princess from it.

Director Bryan Singer appears to give us all the CGI we can handle to show the giant and the beanstalk's crazy growth, and I'm kind of excited for the blockbuster-y take on the fairy tale. I'm also a fan of Hoult, so I'm happy to see him in this film, as well as Ewan McGregor, who pops up as a knight in shining armor (though if you blink, you might miss him). Nicholas K Spring 2012

It was all about the modern gypsy at Nicholas K's Spring 2012 show today as designer siblings Nicholas and Christopher Kunz sent models down the runway decked out in silken layers complete with long head scarves, nomadic leather platform sandals, and side cornrow braids. For daywear the duo showcased sheer dresses layered underneath glazed cropped ponchos, while nightwear focused on long silk gowns, gracefully flowing down the runway. With a color palette of warm, vibrant earth tones, the collection took on a functional futuristic aesthetic. We especially loved the perfectly layered look, see middle image, comprised of light tan trench and draped skirt paired with a knotted cream top. More highlights from the show below.

Trends: Cropped capes, asymmetric hemlines, glazed/metallic jackets, sheer dresses, urban gypsy.

Colors: White, tan, copper, green, blue, black, gray.
