Hot Holiday Item to Pre-Order: New SMB For the Wii

I'm not gonna lie, after getting a sneak peek of New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii back in June at E3, I've been secretly counting down the days until I can pop this game into my shiny white console.

In less than five days (this Sunday!) SMB for the Wii ($50) will be released across the country, and I can tell you this much - it's going to be on many wish lists this holiday season - heck, it's already getting rave reviews.

There's no denying that Super Mario Bros. games have staying power - SMB3 did win our best video game ever bracket challenge! And with this game you can experience multiplayer fun (Mario, Luigi and two toads are playable characters), use the new propeller suit, and shake and tilt your wiimote to do fun things like tilt seesaws and transform Mario into a penguin.

My Favorite Nintendo News From the E3 Keynote

This morning at Nintendo's press conference at E3, Gizmodo followed all of the announcements on their liveblog, and I couldn't help but get excited about three in particular.

The first one is the new multiplayer Super Mario Bros. for the Wii, appropriately titled New Super Mario Bros. The game sadly won't be in 3D, but it will come with fun new powerups (like a propeller suit) and an autozoom feature that will keep all four players on screen while flying. The New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii will be available right in time for Christmas this year.

Nintendo also announced photo functionality on the DSi, where users will be able to take pictures and easily upload them to Facebook.

And last but not least, the next installment in the Wii Fit craze will be called Wii Fit Plus, which will include six new strength and yoga activities as well as 15 new balance games. The best part? There's going to be a facet to the game that will let you feel like you're Super Mario - whoa! This game will make its way to store shelves this Fall.

Colorful DS Bundles Available on Black Friday

I know I don't need an excuse to buy a new Nintendo DS, but if you don't have one yet (side note: Why?), then Black Friday is the perfect time to dive in. Starting November 28, you can pick up a DS in one of two new colors: Mario Red and Ice Blue. This is great news since the majority of you like your gadgets with a little hue on them. But the best part isn't just the new shades. Just like we saw last year, these hot new handhelds are being bundled with two of my favorite games to get you started - Super Mario Bros, and Brain Age.

The bundles will set you back $150 bucks, but the price is totally right for a limited edition color. I'm getting up early to snatch one up as a Christmas gift, although I'm not sure yet who will be the lucky recipient. But really, who wouldn't love a new DS? And if they don't, then it's more DS action for me. Merry Christmas, indeed.

Geek Out: What Was Your First Video Game?

I remember it like it was yesterday. We had an Atari, given to us by our uncle who had already tired of it, and my mom was particularly averse to it, so the console got relegated to the 13-inch black-and-white tube TV. We didn't care though - my sister and I were just shocked and amazed that we had video games. In our own home! The game was Fast Food - you had to position a pair of lips to eat "good food" and avoid the bad - particularly the purple pickles (this is where the black and white TV was a clear disadvantage).

Why am I waxing nostalgic right now? Because I'm at E3! I'm in the midst of new video games everywhere - and can't help but gravitate to familiar titles like the New Super Mario Bros. for Wii - new, yet old.

Any articles of Super Mario Bros. apparel I've seen before usually consist of hand-knitted creations like the 1Up Mushroom or the beautiful Princess Peach scarves. Well feast your eyes on this glamorous Super Mario Bros. eveningwear line from Craftster member montyfull. From an actual sequined Mario dress to a bob-omb and mushroom dress, she covered all of the basics and then some.

Why the gamer-themed dresses? She says:

"So I'm a fashion major. Graduated in 2007, and just got around to uploading pics of my stuff! I'm an avid gamer for life. Shooters, RPGs, PC, Nintendo, Xbox . . . Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story Is Worth Checking Out

Sure, I have my favorites when it comes to DS games: Rhythm Heaven, New Super Mario Bros., and Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, to name a few. Mario games in general have got to be my all-time faves, but I am always skeptical that new additions to the SMB family won't deliver the same adventurous and skillful levels.

Well according to CNET, Nintendo's Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story ($34), which just hit store shelves a couple of weeks ago, is the next best thing to New Super Mario Bros. 2. The third installment in the Mario and Luigi role-playing games, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story offers challenging puzzles, as players are in charge of two separate storylines.

I'm really looking forward to taking it for a test drive to see if it lives up to all the hype!
