Neil Patrick Harris' Funny TV vs. Internet Skit During Emmys

Last night the stars came out in full force to attend the Primetime Emmy Awards in LA. Neil Patrick Harris certainly did an incredible job hosting the show and keeping the crowd entertained - did you enjoy his little song and dance opener? As soon as the festivities kicked off, Patrick was singing about TiVos, the Internet, high-definition televisions, and telephones, and then came his funny skit halfway through the show about watching TV shows on the Internet vs. a big high-def television screen. My favorite part was when the screen shrunk and then when the buffering symbol popped up - geeky goodness at its finest!

How I Met Your Mother and Her Geeky Friends!

If I wanted to, I could probably do a TV tech quiz for How I Met Your Mother - you wouldn't think, but this ensemble of friends in NYC is pretty wired - especially my favorite character, Barney. I've Ioved NPH since Doogie Howser, MD, and as Barney I love him more - he's got an iPhone, a MacBook Pro - and talks in tech (and text) speak 24/7! A little bit creep but a lot of geek, Barney killed me in this clip from last week's episode after a scandalous romp with Ted's ex-girlfriend Robin.

Vintage Geek: Doogie Howser, Blogger

At the risk of dating myself, I'm just going to put it out there that I was a huge Doogie Howser, MD fan. In fact, I couldn't have been more ecstatic a few years ago when Neil Patrick Harris made a triumphant comeback with Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, which of course led to his awesome role as Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother. I watch NPH on HIMYM - a slick, chic geek with his iPhone - and then I remember that this is not the first time he's showcased his onscreen geekiness.

As Doogie Howser, MD, the boy genius-turned-doctor, NPH sat at his ancient IBM PC and tapped out his thoughts daily. That's right, everybody: Doogie was a blogger! Or at least, a blogger in its first form. If Doogie Howser were on TV today, he would have found Blogger and set up shop (with fitsugar on his RSS Reader, of course). So here's to you, Doogie, our beloved old school geek!
