Although I've said before that I wouldn't ditch my computer for a slim and watered-down netbook, I can see the appeal. For some folks, toting around a five pound machine conjures up thoughts of neck stiffness and shoulder realignments, while spending upwards of $1700 for an ultra-light MacBook Air can really break the bank, especially in these volatile economic times. And whether or not Steve Jobs thinks that netbooks are gaining in popularity, the fact remains that they are!

So if you are going to spend your hard earned cash on a tiny mini netbook, the least I could do is help you decide which one is right for you. Check out my guide to the best mini notebooks out there on the market today. No need to thank me, it's all in a day's work.

HP Envy 14 Spectre Gets Priced at $1,400

The HP Envy 14 Spectre was arguably the most fetching ultrabook at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, and we finally know how much damage it will do to our bank accounts. The HP Envy 14 Spectre will be available Feb. 17 and priced at $1,400 to start.

The base model Spectre comes stocked with a 14-inch HD+ Radiance Infinity LED-backlit display and backlit keyboard, a 128GB SSD hard drive, Bluetooth connectivity, a TrueVision HD webcam, Gorilla Glass top fused to a black-and-silver aluminum body, and 9.5 hours of battery life. Supported ports include mini-DisplayPort, HDMI, USB 3.0, and an SD/MultiMediaCard reader. HP also developed HP CoolSense, which keeps your machine running cool even after long hours of use, so you won't suffer from the dreaded laptop burn on your legs.

The Bentley You Always Wanted (but Can't Afford) Comes With Gadget Goodies

Though I'm more of a gas-friendly, small-car kind of gal, I wouldn't mind taking a ride in this Executive Interior Concept Bentley that features sweet, sweet gadgets throughout. Not only is the entertainment and audio system powered by a Mac Mini from the trunk, but the rear seats are probably the best in the house. Coming with seatback video screens, a center 15-inch monitor, two iPads, a mechanical fold-out tray to accommodate a laptop, space for your Apple trackpad, and a center console that houses hookups for your iPhone and iPod, a keyboard, a refrigerated compartment, and controls for your audio and video system, and WiFi, it's pretty much the ultimate mobile workstation.

eReader - If you're sans tablet, pack up your favorite ereader. Whether it's the latest Kindle or the new Nook Simple Touch, you can read the entire Game of Thrones series without all the paper weight.
Compact laptop - Though the MacBook Air is arguably the most popular lightweight laptop out there, there's plenty of compact PCs to choose from as well. We're big fans of the HP Mini 210, and the Samsung Series 9 is sleek and chic as well.

The World Health Organization recently listed the cell phone as "carcinogenic," which means it could potentially be bad for your health due to the levels of radiation emitted during use. There are easy ways to cut down your risk of exposure, but a few of you had some additional questions that we'd like to cover here. You can use a Bluetooth earpiece, but since those kinds of headsets use radio waves to transmit data, you're better off using a wired hands-free device. Earbuds with an attached microphone should work just fine.

MacBook Air

The new Macbook Airs are the lightest, thinnest, and cheapest in the laptop category now, with the 11-inch starting at $999 and the 13-inch at $1,299. New specs in both models include a back-lit keyboard, new and fast i5 and i7 Intel processors, and Thunderbolt connections for fast data transfer. Of course, you still get the same sleek touchpad, flash storage, and long-lasting battery life in all of the models along with the latest version of OSX Lion.
