Geek Tip: Browse Flickr Photos With Style

Trolling through photo archives on Flickr is always entertaining, whether the photographer is your aunt Betty or a stranger who lives in Kazakhstan, but it can start to feel a little linear and boring after any good online photography cruise. If you are interested in spicing up your digital photo browsing, check out Masable's 11 Craziest Ways To Browse Flickr Photos list. My favorites on the list include:

retrievr: Allows you to try and find a photo on Flickr by drawing it. It's a combination of Pictonary and third grade sketches - and it's always entertaining.
Spell With Flicker: A favorite on TeamSugar and geek, this app allows you to spell out your name or favorite word in Flickr letters.
Depictr: If it's music that you love, you can type in your favorite song lyrics and get nine Flickr images that somehow correspond to the lyrics. (The picture above came from the search of "Lucy in the sky with diamonds.")

According to INQ's CEO, Pretty Girls Aren't Geeks

According to Frank Meehan, CEO of INQ, pretty girls can't be geeks. This, as told to Mashable during this year's Mobile World Congress. First, let's take a look at the entire quote. Meehan says:

If you go to a nightclub in any city in the world, the pretty girl has an iPhone or a BlackBerry. She doesn't have an Android phone. She has no emotional attachment to an Android phone. It's too complicated. It's a geek device, it's all wrong.

After the Mashable post went live, Meehan went on to say via Twitter that what he meant was, "most people not interested in tech don't get Android yet." Still digging a hole, or a valid argument?

While it seems that Android has always been marketed toward men, I have a number of lady friends who have an Android device and find it preferable over the alternatives. I myself have an iPhone, but that doesn't mean that I think the Android platform is "too complicated." Without using this post as a channel to vent my frustrations about gender bias in the tech world, I'll just say that I'm hoping this "boys club" mentality I find so prevalent comes to an end soon. However, on the other hand, statements like the one coming from Meehan only propel me to work harder, bring down the barriers, and break stereotypes.

Using Google+ to Find a Job

There's now a new social media platform that you can add to your job-hunting arsenal: Google+. Since this medium is still in its early stages, you'll probably get more exposure once you start leveraging it for your job search. Mashable came up with a bunch of great tips to using Google+ to find yourself a job:

Be seen and heard: Fill out your profile with a job-hunting angle in mind and start interacting with people and let them know you're looking for employment. Feel free to post it in your profile or even an update, but make sure you're doing it in a creative way and not spamming people. Make it cute, fun, and succinct and figure out a way to
Follow people in your industry: Google+ is a pretty open network right now, and the privacy settings are more reminiscent of Twitter rather than Facebook. Here's your chance to mix around with people in your industry and to make new friends. Start making a list of people to befriend and look them up on Google+.
Share content: Many experts provide a valuable service of sharing great and unique content on social media outlets. Try doing the same and try to stick to a niche topic.
Be careful of which circles you're posting to: Remember to filter your posts and be sure to censor your private thoughts from those in your professional circle.
