Stocking up on a few World Cup final party supplies over the weekend, I came across this Mario DS Character Kit at my local Costco store. Truth? I squealed like a little NES junkie when I saw it. Looking back, it was kind of embarrassing since the two ten year olds that were browsing video games alongside me laughed out loud, not to mention my boyfriend's mortified reaction. What can I say - I can't resist a little Mario flare!

Beyonce Plays Big Sister Hostess for Solange's Dance Party

Beyonce spent the day on the set of her new movie yesterday, but it's not all work and no play - last night she kicked up her heels and threw a dance party for her sister Solange's 22nd birthday in LA. It seems like no event is complete without Samantha Ronson spinning these days, and of course Lindsay Lohan was right there to hang out by the booth. While Solange wins the award for most attention-grabbing dress, she made sure to keep the dance floor rocking all night long by asking that Samantha play plenty of her sister Beyonce and brother-in-law Jay-Z's famous hits.

Lifelike Homer and Mario Freak Me Out

So you should all know by now, I love Mario just as much as the next geek. However, I would have to think twice before wishing he was a real live person! I've been putting off posting about these textured (and scarily lifelike) photos of Homer and Mario 'cause they kinda freak me out!

Seriously though, I gotta hand it to the devoted dude over at Pixeloo, because he really put some effort into "un-tooning" my fave plumber and the number one dad of Springfield in some serious weeklong sessions of Photoshop. To hear about how he did it, just

read more The artist started by cutting and pasting different parts of faces from random pics (including one of John McEnroe), then layered them on top of reference photos of the toons to create these 3D renders. Although he does say these aren't meant to look like real folks:

"For clarification, these aren't studies of what Homer would look like if he was a real person, its just what a cartoon like Homer would look like if he kept his toon proportions but had realistic texturing and lighting."

I still can't help but think that if I saw these guys on the street, I would have to immediately run in the other direction! Since he's remained anonymous on his blog, we'll just give him some kudos here for freaking us all out! Source

The History of Mario and His Power-Ups

It's hard to believe that Mario has endured so many changes in his power-ups over the years! This interesting power-up evolution chart which was featured on TechEBlog, displays Mario in most of his power-up personas. Some of my faves include the froggy suit and Kuribo's Shoe from Super Mario Bros. 3 as well as the helicopter in Super Mario Bros. for Game Boy. I'm just about to save the princess in the New Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo DS and although it's not on this chart, I'd have to say that the mega mushroom that supersizes Mario is now my all-time fave.

Mariah's Little White New Year's Eve

Mariah Carey went with a pretty standard skin tight LWD to take on hosting duties for TAO's New Year's Eve Party in Las Vegas. She had no problem posing with what looks like a delicious cake, but something tells us that Mariah skipped out on dessert. When asked about her New Year's resolutions, she said, "I should have them, but I've already done them," referring to her dieting habits in 2007. We have to agree that she looks pretty fab, which can only help in promoting her new album next year.

Celebrities Enjoy La Dolce Vita

All sorts of random celebrities came out on Thursday night for the La Dolce Vita Benefit for the Sarah Ferguson Foundation at Cipriani in NYC. The original Fergie happily posed on the red carpet with an equally excited Brandy and Natasha Bedingfield. LL Cool J asserted his status as number one. Meanwhile, what happened to Jason Lewis' hotness? Where did it go? Hopefully it'll be back in full Absolut Hunk mode in the Sex and the City movie. I wonder if Natasha sang the song that will forever be The Hills theme song in my mind? Fun times.

Get Excited: It's the Super Mario 3DS E3 Trailer

Earlier today, Nintendo unveiled its latest console, the Wii U, but also told us about a few of the new games being created for the Nintendo 3DS, two of which are Super Mario and Mario Kart. Hold On to Your Tanooki Suits: Super Mario 3DS Making Appearance at E3

Ever since the Nintendo 3DS hit the streets, I've been itching for a new Mario game to play. Turns out, there's a brand new one on the horizon that will make its first appearance at E3 this June.

According to Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario 3DS (which will launch sometime this year) will be like a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and the N64 version of Super Mario, but it will be much easier to play thanks to the 3D nature of the portable console. "For example, the floors floating in space: in 2D it’s difficult to judge the distance, but in 3D it’s really easy." I'm so excited to get my hands on it. Look for more details to come!

Turnips are one of those Winter root vegetables that get little love but can be a truly delicious addition to your next meal. There's little information about their original cultivation, but we do know that back in ancient Rome Pliny the Elder considered the turnip to be one of the most important vegetables of his day. Today, lots of families in the South love stewing up the turnip vegetable or its greens for a warming supper.
