Publish Your Own Magazine on the Cheap With MagCloud

Now that you've published your novel online for free, why not bring to life that idea for a magazine you've had swirling around in your head? Now you can on the cheap with MagCloud.

Just recently fresh out of beta, MagCloud allows you to create your own magazine, edit, tweak, add photography, and then with just a few clicks, publish your work online and have it printed for your adoring public.

Remember back when music was being made without record labels? It's kinda like that, but now you can unhinge your ideas on your own, without the backing of a megacorporation - just create your mag from your computer! But printing your magazine isn't all that MagCloud will do. Find out about the other services they take care of, and how much all of this costs when you read more.

MagCloud makes it easy to run your own magazine - they take care of printing, shipping, and subscription services, and printing costs only 20 cents a page!

Could You Give Up Print Magazines For Digital Editions?

Digital editions of magazines are nothing new, although it feels pretty momentous to hear that prestigious magazine The New Yorker is launching its digital version, with all of the content being made free to its print subscribers.

Here's the thing - I'm a magazine junkie. I subscribe to so many magazines, I can barely get through them all in a month. I love seeing the shiny new covers in the mail, flipping through them when I get a spare moment - I've always loved them. When I hear that titles go digital, I rejoice (more ways to access the content), but I also secretly fear for the fate of the print editions. What if everyone switched to reading magazines online and my beloved magazines stopped greeting me in my mailbox? I don't know if I could deal.

Could you make the switch from paper to exclusively digital?

Source

Google's Marissa Mayer Is One of Glamour's Women of the Year

At just 34-years-old, as Google's vice president, search and user experience, Marissa Mayer, will soon be celebrating her 10-year Google anniversary. Being the very first female engineer to be hired by the search engine company way back in 1999, Mayer climbed her way to the top and is now a very prominent figure at Google, which now employs over 19,000 people worldwide.

This month, Glamour Magazine is honoring Mayer with a Woman of the Year award. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and 2002 Woman of the Year explains why Mayer was selected for this award:

"She has been a powerhouse of creativity and business acumen for one of the world’s most innovative companies. Marissa Mayer is leading the way in keeping America number one."

A very deserving recipient indeed - smart, geeky, and not to mention, incredibly stylish!

Source

Brad Pitt Graces the Cover of Wired, Talks a Ton of Tech

Coming to newsstands on July 21, the latest issue of Wired magazine heats things up this Summer with heartthrob Brad Pitt on the cover. While Angelina Jolie has admitted her lack of tech-expertise by saying she doesn't even know how to turn on a computer, Brad proves he's an Internet whiz when asked about Twitter and online dating.

When questioned about the taboo topic of talking on the phone in the loo he says:

No, you can't talk on the phone! Do you want the guy next to you to hear your entire conversation? That's why you should only text in the bathroom. Just be sure you don't hit the wrong button and end up putting a photo of your junk on Twitter. Trust me, you don't want those followers.

Considering he's one of the faces of Softbank cell phones, it's good to know he's a phone-etiquette pro. And although he doesn't have an active Twitter account as of yet, his knowledge of tech trends keeps us very hopeful!

Now that you've seen fellow hottie David Beckham sporting the Bluetooth earpiece, it's time for you to decide who looks hotter with their Bluetooth earpieces, Brad or David?

J.J. Abrams Brings Possibly the Coolest Issue of Wired Yet

This newest issue of Wired Magazine (which I read faithfully), brings together some of my favorite things inside its pages: puzzles, magic, and J.J. Abrams.

Not only is J.J. Abrams responsible for some of the most geek-worthy shows on TV like Lost, Fringe, and Alias, but he produced soon-to-be Spring blockbuster Star Trek (which I have my IMAX tickets for already). So when I heard that he would be helping to whip up the May issue of Wired into something totally fitting of his work, I couldn't wait to get my copy.

Packed with puzzles, mysteries, and science, this issue of Wired should take longer than the average issue to get through - there is something on every page to solve, decode, decipher, and discover. Nothing is an accident.

Check out some behind the scenes footage of J.J. working with the Wired staff, and what you can expect in the next issue when you read more.

Ashton Talks Tech in Portfolio Magazine

In the latest issue of Portfolio magazine, newly crowned celeb geek king Ashton Kutcher tells us that although he isn't good at spelling stepdaughter Tallulah's name (it is a hard name to spell), he is good at math, and isn't afraid to make the jump from the red carpet to the tech world.

With Ashton and his company, Katalyst Media, involved in so many projects, it's pretty hard to keep up. There's a custom advertising site called Saysme, the ooma Internet phone company he helped to launch, and of course, Blah Girls, which drew some criticism from Silicon Valley insiders at last year's TechCrunch conference saying it "offered little in the way of new technology."

Not letting a little negativity get him down, Ashton tells us in March's issue to keep an eye out for his new venture, a game show called Opportunity Knocks, which will hit ABC later this year.

Source

December Issue of GQ Is Headed For Your iPhone

I love the Kindle because I can not only read books and blogs, but I can download newspapers and magazines. The downside? They don't have some of my favorite periodicals, and let's face it - it's a pretty pricey gadget whose only function is reading. These drawbacks help make the latest news on digital magazines pretty exciting - Condé Nast will be releasing the December issue of GQ on newsstands and in the App Store. Set to launch in November, GQ will be available as a $3 app, and will contain the same content you'll find in the print version. In addition to the editorial, you can find corresponding videos, photos, and audio right there in the app.

I'm stoked about this because it paves the way for other magazines to follow, so I can catch up on my magazine reading from anywhere. But what about you - would you read magazines on the iPhone?

Pam From The Office Takes Off Her Clothes For Wired

The April cover of Wired Magazine will feature a package of stories about radical transparency, their notion that the next model of business success is laying your company bare to the world-sharing secrets with your rivals, blogging about ideas as you have them, and copping to fumbles and foibles as you make them. Even more transparent, I fear, is the magazine's cover, which features the fabulously funny and smart Jenna Fischer, who plays Pam on The Office. No there won't be any foil wrapping, but Fischer will appear clothed in the top cover and "naked" on a second cover underneath.

"If you're talking about transparency, the obvious metaphor is clear: you're naked," says Wired's Creative Director. "So of course, Wired being Wired we wanted a cover that was smart and showy. And as Creative Director I wanted something that hadn't been done before. We settled on the idea of printing on clear acetate. But it had to be interactive. Now you’re in a business suit-now you’re not." read more

While Fischer isn't actually naked, the raciness is a first for the magazine and has already started a wave of discussion across the web. The message to "Get Naked And... Rule The World" that I don't take lightly, and I am certainly not alone. "It's familiar boy's club crap," says Back In Skinny Jeans. "Yeah, just sex up the receptionist. Why didn't you throw in the pot of coffee while you were at it? Naked women on business magazines is just wrooooong, and that's why it's never been done before by anyone with class."

BuzzSugar uncovered this isn't the first time Fisher has posed naked. What do you think of the move?

Source

It's not everyday I get to grace the cover of People, but thanks to a site called MagMyPic I can be the cover model for a variety of magazines!

Just go to the site and upload a picture of your liking, then choose from magazines like Rolling Stone, National Geographic, Fortune, Sports Illustrated, Time, Playboy, Vogue, and People - don't worry you'll get the chance to preview all of them so you can pick just the right one.

Discussed on Neatorama, you can add your MagMyPic cover to your your blog, social network page, or keep for personal use. Don't get too scandalous though since the site shows off all the latest covers created!
