MTV Decides to Launch Its Own Music Site

Take Hulu and YouTube, add some pretty colors, and you've got MTV's latest creation: MTV Music. Not a revolutionary new music site, but what I do like about it is it's your one-stop shop for thousands of music videos from the past and from the future (Duran Duran, vintage Madonna, it's all there). Choose to watch on the site or embed on your own blog, and it even gives you a full screen option. They've still got some kinks to work out, but overall, a handy and simplistic music site.

Geek We Love: The MPMan With a Plan

The MPMan was short-lived, but the first MP3 player mass-marketed in the US paved the way for the portable media player revolution. Now that we've gotten to know Kane Kramer, who developed the first MP3 player, and Nathan Schulhof, who created a precursor to iPod and iTunes, it's time to take a look at the history surrounding the MPMan.

Korean electronics company Saehan created and distributed the player in 1998. Michael Robertson, CEO of MP3.com, imported the MPMan into the US and sold it on the MP3.com website. Around the same time, Eiger Labs also imported the player and rebranded it (pictured).

The MPMan came in two versions: the MPMan F10 ($299), which held 32 megabytes, or 35 minutes of music; and the MPMan F20 ($459), which held 64 megabytes, or 90 minutes of music. The player was palm-sized and featured a small LED screen on the front, with the headphone jack and control buttons on top of the device.

The Hunger Games and Bridesmaids Lead the Pack For the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Nominees

Is The Hunger Games the new Twilight? If the new crop of nominees for the MTV Movie Awards are any indication, we might be in for a regime change. Along with Bridesmaids, The Hunger Games is leading the pack, including nods for male and female performance and movie of the year. Of course the real question will be whether or not Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson can take down Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart for best kiss, a category the Twilight couple has dominated for the past three years.

As for the rest of the nominees, big comedies from the year like Crazy, Stupid, Love and 21 Jump Street got a lot of love, as did the final installment in the Harry Potter series. There are also a handful of new categories, like best music and the oh-so-prestigious best on-screen dirt bag. Check out the full list of nominees before the show airs on June 3.

Selena Gomez Sparkles at the MTV EMAs With Justin, Coldplay, and More!

Selena Gomez took the stage in Belfast, Ireland last night to host and perform during the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards. She was one of the artists chosen to entertain the crowd along with her boyfriend Justin Bieber, Coldplay, LMFAO, Bruno Mars, and Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga went home with the top honors and added four new trophies to her growing collection, while Justin was right on her heels taking home two - see the entire list of MTV EMA winners! Jersey Shore's Snooki and J Woww presented Katy Perry with the best live award, and supermodels Bar Refaeli and Irina Shayk hit the pink carpet before presenting Lady Gaga with one of her statues. There were plenty of exciting routines, and the proceedings also included a respectful tribute to the late Amy Winehouse.

Prior to the show, Justin and Selena were spotted hanging out together on Saturday with no signs of strain on their relationship. It seems the paternity allegations plaguing Justin in the States aren't causing him to lose any sleep. He recently told Matt Lauer of the allegations, "I never met the woman. . . I know I"m going to be a target, but I'll never be a victim." His trip to Europe continues today as he heads to London for a tree lighting ceremony to promote his new holiday album, Under the Mistletoe.

MTV has released its list for this year's MTV VMAs, and there are a few staple artists with multiple nominations, like Eminem, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, but there are lots of newer musicians blowing up the list this year too. Take Adele, who's up for best female video, best pop video, and video of the year for her hit "Rolling in the Deep," and Nicki Minaj, who broke into the best female video and best hip hop video categories for "Super Bass."
