Lost Winds Coming to WiiWare

First previewed at this year's Game Developers Conference, Lost Winds will be a title to watch out for on the Wii in the upcoming months. Although I'm totally looking forward to the much hyped Grand Theft Auto IV, I do like a nice, friendly Nintendo game to have some fun with. Lost Winds has you playing as Taku as you navigate your way through the world of Mistralis. In this world, you are trying to find and piece together shards of a spirit stone with the help of the wind called Enril, which you also have control over. Using the nunchuck to direct Taku, and the Wiimote to aim Enril's breezes, you not only help Taku jump, but can push over rocky obstacles, light torches and spray water.

OK, so it seems to be a fun and interesting puzzle game, but it's totally pretty, right?! I love little Taku and his cape, plus it kind of reminds me of Zelda. Lost Winds doesn't yet have a release date, but word has it that it will be out on WiiWare very soon. Check out more screens when you read more

Active Life Extreme Challenge Hands-On: Fun and Functional

When I arrived in LA yesterday, I had no idea that my day would begin with a workout - and I'm not talking about my hotel's gym! I'm talking about the demo of Active Life: Extreme Challenge at the Namco Bandai booth here at E3. Not only is Active Life: Extreme Challenge fun, but it packs a punch too. The minigames you play are unexpected (including street luge, jump rope, wind surfing, and base jumping), and they are surprisingly effective at leaving your abs tingling and your face sweaty.

Although I'm obviously a huge fan of Wii Fit, I'd have to say that Active Life: Extreme Challenge may put up a pretty good fight in the exergaming market, and dare I say, it has the potential to take it over. Why would I make such a statement? Find out when you read more.

Like I said, I love Wii Fit, and although I lost a few pounds during my Wii Fit Challenge, AL:EC has you jumping and leaning in more ways than the Wii Fit did. In terms of sweat factor, I think AL:EC has a leg up on Wii Fit. Plus, since it comes with the controller floor pad (a la DDR), you're set to go right out of the box. Extra bonus? You'll be able to use your Mii's in the game too. Active Life: Extreme Challenge is due out this fall on your Wii.

Widower Calls Deceased Wife's Voice Mail Just to Hear Her Voice

File this under Sigh: An 80-year-old man whose wife died in 2005 has been calling her number every day since, just to hear her say her name on his voice mail recording. I'm in a virtual puddle over here.

Anyway, after a while, the carrier, Verizon, upgraded the service and it was lost - but don't worry, they got wind of it and restored the message for the man. He says, very simply, “I’m glad they rescued it. . . I’m very happy.”
