Speck's New MacBook Pro Cases Provide Protection, Style

Being a fan of Speck's Artsprojekt iPhone 3G and 3GS cases, as well as its new line of fabric-lined iPhone 4 cases, you should know that I'm ready to snatch up one (or more) of its new form-fitting fabric-wrapped hard shell cases for the 13-, and 15-inch MacBook Pro.

Coming in four stylized patterns - dark and light Tartan, Cookie Camo brown, and Spexy Hexy purple - you can rock these any time of year and still look on trend. Since the cases are of the hard shell variety, you get an extra layer of protection along with Speck's signature soft-touch finish. The cases will hit the virtual shelves this October for $70, which is still soon enough to make a statement when you head back to school!

Redmaloo Felt Laptop Case: Genius Design in Beautiful Colors

I'm totally entranced by Redmaloo's felt laptop cases - they're modern, tactile, come in gorgeous colors, and they are totally innovative. Instead of zipping, snapping, or trying to get your laptop through a fold, these felt cases unfold and un-velcro to a flat panel, which in turn becomes your workstation, mouse pad and all.

Plus, I think that once you got it down, Redmaloo's design would be a way more efficient way to get your computer through airport security - you just put the whole thing in the bin and un-velcro, then re-velcro post-security belt!

Crystal-Studded Laptop Covers: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

I can't help but get a bit of satisfaction and pleasure from personalizing my gadgets - especially with fun new decals and chic new cases. So when PartySugar gave me a glittery-gold sticker to put on the back of my cell phone (it was the first initial of my name), I absolutely loved it. The sticker has since worn off (call it overuse of the phone if you will), but I'm always on the look out for sparkly new accessories to jazz up my gadgets.
Aside from the usual blinged-out, cellphone cases at CES this year, I also came across (ahem . . . was blinded by) these crystal-covered laptop stickers. I can't say I'd want to go all out and slap one of these on my laptop, but I'm curious to know if any of you would?! What do you think? Too geeky or somewhat geek chic?

Fragrance Makers Capture the Scent of a Brand-New MacBook Pro

In the 21st century, appreciation for "that new-car smell" may finally have been usurped by a scent that's much better aligned with the zeitgeist - the scent of an Apple Macbook Pro. Scent marketer Air Aroma says its labs have captured the bouquet of a freshly unboxed MacBook, and now the fragrance is being used as ambient scent for an art exhibition in Australia. The notes are exactly what you might expect: "the smell of the plastic wrap covering the box, printed ink on the cardboard, the smell of paper and plastic components within the box, and of course the aluminum laptop which has come straight from the factory where it was assembled in China."

How does one even begin to make such a scent, though? With an actual laptop, of course. An unopened MacBook Pro was sent to Air Aroma's suppliers in France, and from there, the noses "used the scents they observed unboxing the new Apple computer to source fragrance samples." The scent isn't being mass produced as of now, but there are undoubtedly some gadget junkies who'd probably be more than happy to catch a whiff of this unconventional fragrance.
