As a geek and avid beach bum, I hate to restrict my love for net surfing and reading just because of those strong sun rays. I know, most of you thought the LapDome on the left was totally freakish, rightly so, as it's not everyday you see people sporting "tents" with their laptops inside. But it does offer that shelter your laptop desperately craves in the hot sun, and removes that nasty glare which makes it humanly impossible to see anything on your screen.

The Lapdome: Geekish or Freakish?

As attached as I am to my laptop, when I imagine myself lying in the sun poolside, I can't seem to envision myself glued to it. Nonetheless, the good folks at LapDome made sure that those of you who suffer with GSA (Gadget Separation Anxiety) are good to go, even when you're on vacay. Do You Use Your Laptop Outside?

There's nothing more torturous than seeing a gorgeous sunny day outside, children laughing, dogs running, grass growing. . . and you have to stay inside and work on your laptop.

Of course, brave souls with full batteries attempt the outdoor laptop adventure all the time, and why wouldn't you when more and more city parks are offering free WiFi?

I've attempted it a few times; the last time was a balmy day in Texas, when the best signal I could get with my wireless card was outside - and luckily, the deck I was on had an outlet and enough shade to avoid having to use a stare-inducing Lapdome. I have to say, it's kind of fabulous if you have all the right conditions.

So with the sunny weather finally tiptoeing out, tell me - do you ever use your laptop outside?
