Geek Trick: The Jell-O Keyboard

Being let go from your office drone job? Go out with a bang - a jiggly bang - with a peripheral-destroying prank!

Reminiscent of the now-classic stapler-in-Jell-O prank played on both the American and British versions of The Office, this keyboard-and-mouse-in-Jell-O joke is the ultimate in geek revenge. The two hooligans in the gallery detailed their delicious caper in photos, and it looks messy, involved, and hilarious. I would hate to see my precious keyboard and mouse jiggling on Monday morning, but I'd love to see the face of the recipient of this Jell-O joke!

To see all the hilarious pics read more.

Have You Ever Been Rick Roll'd?

Have you ever opened an email or IM from a friend directing you to an "awesome" or "really funny" site, only to click on the link and find yourself rockin' out to a Rick Astley video on YouTube? You may begin thinking to yourself "This isn't really that funny or awesome," then you begin to wonder what happened to you. Wonder no more, my friend, you've just been "Rick Roll'd."

What is Rick Roll'd? Well, also known as "Rick Rolling" or "Rick N' Roll", Rick Rolling is an internet prank in which "roll-ers" disguise a link to a Rick Astley video on YouTube as another video or website (usually consisting of puppies, unconfirmed gaming news, fake presidential updates, or blogs with interesting or funny comments) to the the "roll-ee". But why Rick Astley? To find out why, read more.

Some think it's an attempt at a comeback, but personally, I can't think of a better prank than getting his highly infectious song to repeat in someone's head all day. And apparently, it's catching on. Rick's YouTube vid has had almost seven million hits since it was posted last year. This is definitely something my girl Giggle would appreciate, since it seems she's such a big fan!

Source

Excited to date your Gmail emails in the past? Thought Obama didn't know how to use a phone?

You got got, as the Entourage boys would say. April Fool's Day tricks were everywhere on the Internet, from Virgin and Google pledging to fly you to Mars, to Gizmodo's use of Mr. T in every single post.

I loved it - doesn't it seem like IRL, no one does any pranks anymore? I guess geeks are the most fun-loving - and the most gullible! Did you get punk'd?
PC World Exposes The Top 25 Web Hoaxes and Pranks

Ever get the e-mail about that lost relative that's died and left you a fortune, only you have to share your banking number with someone in West Africa? What about the e-mail promising a cash payout from Bill Gates if you forward an e-mail to a bagillion of your friends? Online pranks and shams are all too familiar to those of us that live on the web, but that doesn't mean they aren't delightfully funny or painfully jarring. This month's PC World has put together a list of the The Top 25 Web Hoaxes and Pranks and I for one, took a little trip down memory lane. Highlights include:

The Accidental Tourist (2001) - Quite possibly the most famous hoax picture ever, this gruesome idea of a joke traveled around the Web and made a grand tour of e-mail inboxes everywhere soon after the tragedy of September 11. It depicts a tourist standing on the observation deck of one of the World Trade Center towers, unknowingly posing for a picture as an American Airlines plane approaches in the background.

Sick Kid Needs Your Help (1989) - This gem had its roots in reality. It all began in 1989, when nine-year-old cancer patient Craig Shergold thought of a way to achieve his dream of getting into the Guinness Book of World Records. Craig asked people to send greeting cards, and boy, did they. By 1991, 33 million greeting cards had been sent, far surpassing the prior record.

Bill Gates Money Giveaway (1997) - "Dear Internet Subscriber," the e-mail starts. "The Government of the United States is quietly pushing through legislation that will affect your use of the Internet." It goes on to reveal that "Bill 602P" will authorize the U.S. Postal Service to assess a charge of five cents for every e-mail sent.

For the complete list of web Tom Foolery, check out PC World.

Teenager Hacks His Camera to Shock People and Gets Arrested

A 14-year-old kid got arrested for rigging his camera to shock people, after reading "instructions on the Internet" to do so and taking it to school, Boing Boing reports.

The article doesn't say whether he actually caused someone to be shocked or not, but this just reeks of prank-the-dorky-Science-teacher.

What's interesting about Boing Boing's post is that they point out that they were the ones that posted those instructions. So, uh, I guess it works!

Please, everyone, use this as a cautionary tale and NOT do it: the hacked camera delivers a 600-volt shock (significantly higher, I assume, than the voltage produced by the old sibling-making-static-on-the-rug shock). Owie.
