November 21 is the official anniversary of the Nintendo DS, which hit stores five years ago today.

Over the past five years, the DS has seen its fair share of changes, from the cosmetic: awesome bundles and color options (like gold, red, blue, and green) and fun cases - to the inventive: this year's DSi and subsequent accessories and larger-screen model available overseas.

I'm proud to profess my love for the DS again this year: Happy Birthday Nintendo DS!

Nov. 21 is the official birthday of the Nintendo DS! And after only four years, it's seen its little sisters, the DS Lite and the recently-announced DSi, come into the world as well.

In that four years, I can hardly imagine not having my beloved DS. In traveling and general lounging around with it in my hands (not being able to put it down), it's become indispensable and close to my heart. So happy b-day, Nintendo DS!

Can you believe it? Seven years ago today, Apple introduced the first generation (5G) iPod. With a hard disk drive, mechanical scroll wheel and a FireWire port, the device was unlike any other mp3 player on the market at that time. Over the years we've watched the revolutionary iPod evolve into many shapes and forms. From the iPod classic, shuffle and the Nano to the iPod touch and now the Nano-Chromatic iPods, it's no wonder why the iPod was voted the greatest gadget of all time! In honor of the iPod's anniversary, it'd be great if you could leave a comment telling us what you love about this wonderful piece of technology.

I'm already going through our office birthday list to see who I can surprise and spoil with this USB Birthday Kit - isn't it marvelous? The Digital Smiley Face Turns 25 Today : )

Can you believe that the cute little smiley emoticon which we've all grown to love turns 25 today? According to The New York Times, on Sept. 19, 1982, professor Scott E. Fahlman was the first to use the three infamous keystrokes-a colon followed by a hyphen and a parenthesis, to create a horizontal smiley face in a computer. He used it during a discussion about the limitations of online humor.

And from that, the smiley face was born as a way for computer users to convey a positive feeling and gesture through digital means. The : ) symbol has since been transformed into a yellow bubble smile like the one shown here for use in IM's and emails.

Happy Birthday Mobile Phone!

We all remember the first cell phone we ever saw. Riding the heels of the chunky portable phone (for use indoors) and the car phone, early cell phones were over sized, hyped and largely ineffective but still utterly captivating. It's hard to believe, but this month marks the 20th anniversary of an agreement 15 phone firms signed to build mobile networks based on the Global System for Mobile (GSM) Communications.

The BBC recently took a look at how far the GSM technology has come since 1987, reporting that there are more than 2.5 billion accounts that use this mobile phone technology today.

What's the future of GSM? While we look at most geek apparel with built in technology with some skepticism, experts say GSM tech will eventually be used in "the fabric of your clothing, your shoes, in appliances, in your car." They also predict it could someday allow people wearing monitors to gather and transmit information about their vital signs. It may sound wild, but consider how far we've already come.
