Website of the Day: Got Reception?

This may come as a shock to some of you, but sometimes cell phone shopping is not based on what someone can afford - no, sometimes people have to decide based on what service is best for them. Since I have crying jags when I'm in deadzones, I can empathize with the need for the very helpful website Got Reception?

Using a Google map and your zip code (or a zip code you might be visiting often), Got Reception tells you which cell phone company's service is strongest - or weakest - in a given area. This goes way beyond my problems with the 3G hogging of San Francisco, so for those of you who need this, I salute you!

Jake Gyllenhaal Suits Up and Begins Judging the Berlin Film Festival

Jake Gyllenhaal, wearing a Salvatore Ferragamo suit, joined his fellow jurors last night at the opening ceremony for the 62nd annual Berlin Film Festival. Jake touched down in Germany earlier this week and got a warm reception from fans and the festival's director, Dieter Kosslick. The competition officially kicked off yesterday with the world premiere of Diane Kruger's Farewell, My Queen. There are 18 films in the running this year with each hoping to take home the Golden Bear trophy for best feature. In addition to Diane's movie, Jake will also have the opportunity to judge Angelina Jolie's In the Land of Blood and Honey, which is scheduled to premiere tomorrow night.

For us (admittedly not in the throes of a violent parting of ways), the site raises two questions:

Is It Hilarious or Sad?

We’re happy to see the sellers get revenge (or at least revenue) after their heartbreak. But so many of the confessions in the Tell It section (in which users spill but don’t sell) are stories of men doing horrible things and women in horrible situations. The headline “NICE BOOTS BAD GUY” made us laugh . . . but the person who got dumped while her mother was dying broke our hearts.

Is It Cost-Effective or Cursed?

From a consumer's view, it’s a great deal! Over $1,000 off a Tiffany wedding band? It sounds too good to be true. And maybe it is. If you believe in karma, acquiring trinkets from failed relationships just might doom you to the same fate. Then again, wedding dresses for 40 percent off!

The buzz surrounding David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo has been in effect for a while now, but it's only getting more intense as we inch closer to the film's release date next month. We've got new stills of Lisbeth (Rooney Mara) and Mikael (Daniel Craig) in action in what looks like a very frigid Sweden (with bad cell reception). We also see Lisbeth getting close with Blomkvist in the bathtub. I'm getting a little more excited with each additional look, so check out the new pics and tell me if you agree.

Prince William and Kate Middleton Unite With Danish Royals For UNICEF

Kate Middleton and Prince William joined forces with Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark this morning for a special outing in Copenhagen. This was apparently the first meeting for Kate with Mary and Frederik, though William has known the Danish family for years. The four royals visited a UNICEF food center that distributes emergency food and medical supplies to East Africa, which is suffering from severe shortages of both edibles and water.

In addition to helping pack boxes, the philanthropic organization shared photos on Twitter of Kate and William learning about sanitation for children inside the facility. William sampled a high-protein peanut paste that is sent to Africa, though Kate passed on the opportunity.

Charities that help children are especially close to the hearts of William and Kate and may affect which philanthropies she decides to officially patron. Both Kate and William dressed up for October's gala benefiting the Child Bereavement Charity, and, on Sept. 29, opened the Royal Marsden Hospital's Oak Center For Children and Young People. Africa is also especially dear to William and Kate, as they got engaged at Mount Kenya, and he spent his gap year there.

This morning's outing was designed to shift attention toward the situation in Africa. In a statement, they said, "We hope this will put the light back on this crisis." The couple are expected to return home to the UK this evening following a reception at UNICEF with some of their donors.

Seth Rogen is a married man! The actor and his fiancée, Lauren Miller, tied the knot at Kunde Estate in Sonoma on Saturday in front of a star-studded group of guests. Seth and Lauren's family and friends, including Judd Apatow and wife Leslie Mann, Paul Rudd, Adam Sandler, Craig Robinson from The Office, and Jonah Hill, all came out to support the couple on their big day. After the ceremony, Seth and Lauren drove off in a vintage white convertible before joining the guests at the reception. Seth and Lauren got engaged in December of 2010 and have been together since 2004. Seth's wedding weekend coincided with the release of his new movie 50/50, which got strong reviews and came in fourth place at the box office. Seth was a producer on the movie; though, Saturday was all about an even bigger project - his new marriage. Congrats to the happy couple!

Ryan, Julianne, Ciara, Avril, and More Arrive at Kim Kardashian's Wedding

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries got married yesterday in a lavish ceremony at a private estate in Montecito. The details of the big day were kept under wraps for weeks, though it was revealed that Kim wore a custom-made ivory Vera Wang gown for her walk down the aisle and changed into two different white dresses by the same designer during the reception. Her maids of honor and bridesmaids were also decked out in ivory dresses from Vera Wang, and Kris donned not one but two Ermenegildo Zegna tuxedos during the big event. Kim and Kris requested that their guests follow a black and white dress code, and Avril Lavigne, Julianne Hough, Ciara, and others adhered to the couple's wishes. Julianne arrived in black with Ryan Seacrest, who said that "Kim looked regal" as a bride, and Avril stayed close to her boyfriend and Kim's stepbrother, Brody Jenner, in black. Ciara drove herself to the nuptials, and Lindsay, Dina, and Ali Lohan all showed up in white to celebrate Kim and Kris after getting ready together earlier in the day. Kim's mom Kris Jenner was decked out in a white strapless gown for the evening, and Kim's nephew Mason looked adorable in a mini white tux. Angelina Jolie Welcomed as "Goodness Angel of the World" by Refugees in Turkey

Angelina Jolie got quite the warm reception as she arrived in Turkey today to visit with Syrian refugees. An enormous banner calling her "goodness angel of the world" was strung up to mark her arrival - check out a picture of it in the gallery. Angelina is overseas with the rest of the Jolie-Pitts while Brad gets to work filming World War Z in nearby Malta, so she took the quick trip as part of her work with the UNHCR. The Jolie-Pitts are setting up camp in Malta, which meant Angelina took the kids to a toy store to pick up goodies for the reported $11 million mansion they're renting.

Welcome to our new series A Day in the Life, where we examine at what it's like to be a professional in the food industry. In honor of the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, we look at a day in the life of Kate Krader. As the magazine's restaurant editor, Kate is a girl about town and friend to many chefs. Here's what she did yesterday, Thursday, June 15.

Disclaimer: This is not a normal day in my life. This is the first day of Aspen.

6:30 a.m.: I woke up at 6:30, which is earlier than normal for me at my house in Brooklyn. There was a car waiting to take me to the Westchester airport. I don't normally go to this airport.

7:30 a.m.: I was in the car for one hour, which is too much time to be in the car. Last year for the Classic, we got two private planes that flew direct from New York to Aspen with a bunch of chefs. This year it was the same, so I boarded a Bombardier Global with Michael Symon, Jonathan Waxman, Daniel Boulud, Paul Grieco (he's a sommelier at Terroir), Michael White, Danny Meyer, Marcus Samuelsson, and a bunch more people.

10:30 a.m.: Wheels were up at 10:30, and the plane was super deluxe. This is going to sound obnoxious, but it's true: the Krug wasn't chilled, so we had to wait for it to chill. They had these great vegetables and dip and an awesome caprese salad with burrata. The tomatoes were really ripe. You can do whatever you want on a private plane. You can watch TV or hang in the bedroom. The cool thing about the Bombardier plane is that they can change the pressure in the cabin so that the food actually tastes really good. When you fly in a normal plane, the cabin pressure changes the way things taste; food tastes duller, bad. But in a private plane, they can change it so it tastes good.
