Google Docs Editing (Finally) Comes to Mobile Devices

Google Docs went mobile over the Summer but lacked some key functionality: the ability to edit your work. Now, you can. Today, Google announced mobile editing for Google Docs on Android and iOS devices.

In addition to editing saved documents, you can also create new documents from mobile devices. To view and edit documents, visit docs.google.com from your iPad, iPhone, or Android device and tap the Edit button to switch from viewing mode to editing mode. Mobile editing capability will be rolled out to Android devices running version 2.2 and iOS 3.0 and above.

Check out a demo video of the new functionality after the break.

Google Docs Goes Mobile For Android, iPhone, and iPad

Last week, Google announced the ability to view .doc attachments in your browser without having to download the files; and today it's announcing another time-saving update: a Google Docs Viewer for mobile. Available on Android devices as well as the iPhone and iPad, the mobile viewer will allow you to view PDFs, .ppt, .doc, and .docx files in Google Docs in a clean mobile interface.

The mobile browser also allows you to quickly flip through pages and zoom in within a specific page. One-touch downloading allows you to download the full document to your device. To use the new mobile browser, just visit docs.google.com from your device. It's completely web-based, so there's no program or app to download, and you can access all of your stored documents right away.

Google Docs Mobile Goes Live

Usually when I need to access my Google docs on the fly I pull out my iPhone and navigate my way to my Gmail account.

Google is now offering Google Docs Mobile which will make accessing my docs that much easier. To view your Google docs on your cell phone, just point your browser to http://docs.google.com/m and all your docs should appear if you have Google set-up on your phone. And yes, I am a "to-do" list crazy person!

via Google Blogoscoped

Acer Rolls Out Its Own Cloud Storage and Transfer Service: AcerCloud

Cloud storage comes in handy when you want to access photos, video, and documents away from home. While there are lots of options when it comes to storing your goods in the cloud, Acer is planning to take on the iClouds and Google Docs of the world with its new cloud storage platform called AcerCloud.

Providing a secure and personal connection, AcerCloud connects all of your devices - from mobile phones to desktop PCs - allowing you to see your pics, vids, and Office documents (including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) from anywhere. This free service works with Windows PCs and Android devices starting in Q2 of this year (Windows Mobile compatibility expected in Q4).

In order to access documents and media on the go, you'll first need to download the three AcerCloud apps - Clear.fi Photo, Clear.fi Media, and AcerCloud Docs - on your Android device. From there, you'll have a secure connection between your mobile device and your home PCs or laptops, even if your home computer is asleep or turned off. AcerCloud cashes your media and documents, so you'll always have access. Bonus: if you make changes to any docs from one device, the results are almost immediately available to view on your other devices. Snap a pic from your phone, and you'll instantly see it on your home computer; sorta like Eye-Fi, but with a longer leash.

AcerCloud is free for all Acer customers and is expected to go live in North America and China in Q2, with worldwide availability in Q4.

New and Improved Google Docs, Now With Discussions

Google has just made it easy to collaborate with the introduction of discussions to Google Docs. The new functionality, which was introduced yesterday, allows users to take comments one step further, aggregating all of them into one location and attaching the commenter's image. Each comment also includes a time stamp so you can see exactly when it was posted; comments are displayed in chronological order.

You can also elect to receive email notifications if someone adds a comment to your discussion, and reply to comments directly from your email. Discussions are being rolled out to all Google Docs users with registered Google accounts now, and are just the latest in a series of upgrades to Google Docs that includes support for new file formats and more comprehensive mobile access.

11 Ways to Simplify Your Life Using Tech

Between work, play, and home, your life can get a little cluttered. Though some are in the camp that gadgets cause us more stress than we need, tech can actually help simplify and streamline our lives, even - dare we say it - make it a little more fun. Check out these 11 tips on how tech can help you breathe a little easier every day.

Set up autopay for your bills - Writing checks seems so outdated these days, especially when a majority of creditors and even landlords have an autopay option. By setting up your bills to automatically withdraw from your checking account, you save cash on stamps and envelopes and could even save a few trees in the process. Plus, you'll never be late on a credit card payment again!

Stop getting paper bills - In addition to setting up autopay, you should cancel your paper bills in favor of an electronic version if possible. This will cut down on mail clutter, and you'll have a digital copy of your monthly statement whenever you need it.

Use a social media aggregator - I like to use Hootsuite for my Twitter and Facebook needs, but you can also sync Hootsuite to see your LinkedIn, Wordpress, Foursquare, Ping, and Mixi accounts all in one place. No more jumping around to different social media accounts!

Try Spotify premium - Seriously, who has time to sync, drag, and drop files anymore in this day of fast moving tech? By paying just $10 a month, music fanatics can listen to all the music they want (whether they own it or not) on their computers, mobile devices (via an app), or even offline when they're out of reach. It's one of our favorite things.

Use an RSS reader - There are plenty of good reasons to use an RSS reader (like Google Reader), but the main one is that it saves you time. By subscribing to the RSS feeds of your favorite websites, you no longer have to jump around from site to site to get the latest news. The news comes to you! Plus, you can get access from the web at home or on your smartphone to catch up while you're waiting for the bus or sweating it on the bike at the gym.
