We've done our part to revel in the Google phone rumors over the past year. Every once in a while we hear speculation that it will be released next year, next week or next month, but have never gotten any official confirmation from the company.
Finally, Google has spoken.

For those of you who practiced some serious restraint and decided to save your pennies for the second gen iPhone, behold the next superstar device which might make you change your mind: The Google phone. No word on specs yet, but I'm going to take a wild guess and assume it will be jammed packed with lots of Google apps goodies that will rock anyone's online world. Supposedly Google has been working with Taiwan’s High Tech Computer (HTC) Corp to make this Linux-based phone far superior to the iPhone.

I'll admit this isn't a life-changing tip, but a reminder that Google Talk has been redesigned specifically for the iPhone. It runs right in your Safari browser, so you don't have to download any special application. All you have to do is navigate to talk.google.com and sign in to your account.

I can't tell you the number of times I've been grateful to have my cell phone when standing in long line-ups. I'm not really a "line talker" — for fear someone is listening in on my private convo — but I do respond to emails, check the news, read tweets and sometimes play games. To make things easier on people like me who like to waste time with my cell phone, Google has just announced a new and improved iGoogle for the iPhone and Android powered devices.

I was surprised to learn that Google has introduced a new Phonebook feature that allows you to Google phone numbers and get the corresponding name and address on a Google map. For some, this may seem like a useful business and "yellow-page inspired" tool. For others - particularly yours truly and families with young children - this feels like a "street-view-esque" invasion of privacy.

During a pretrial hearing for failing to promote the movie Pledge This!, US Magazine goes into how Paris Hilton (who we already know is no stranger to technology), pulled out all of the tech excuses, which included saying she used Google as a way to keep track of business meetings.
Paris also went on to blame missed calls from producers on her lost cell phones. She says:
With my phone I never know, because I lose it all the time.

As you already know, I bat for both cell phone teams: the iPhone and the BlackBerry Curve. So I'm thrilled that Google is introducing Gmail for mobile 2.0 — the faster, stronger, better, mail client for cell phones, naturally. What can you do now that you couldn't do before?
