Is Flight of the Conchords Coming to Rock Band?

Last Sunday during the Primetime Emmy Awards, red carpet host Chris Harrison jokingly asked Flight of the Conchords duo Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement if they had any plans for a Flight of the Conchords debut on Rock Band.

A serious-sounding Bret leaned forward into the microphone and said, "We have three songs on the next Rock Band." A lot of people think he's joking, but I detected a note of seriousness. With a duo this funny, it remains to be seen if they're serious, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll soon be singing, "The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room" on Rock Band!

Vintage Camera Phone Puts FOTC Phone Into Perspective

I have been semi-obsessed with oversized, clunky and illogical camera phones ever since I saw the "Mugged" episode of Flight of the Conchords where Jemaine's handmade camera phone (it's literally a camera and phone taped together) gets taken by a street thug. This Canon camera phone is even more fantastic because it combines a spectacular camera with a rotary phone base. Cause everyone needs a rotary phone that can capture images within cord distance, right?

The Rad Flight of The Conchords Mouse Pad

Granted Bret and Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords may not be early adopters to the latest gadgets, but they aren't totally clueless when it comes to tech - they've at least proven that they know difference between a DVD and a VHS! Flight of the Conchords always cracks me up, so when I saw this $10 Flight of the Conchords: Eco-Friendly Mouse Pad on Hippy Shopper, I had to convince myself that my desk accessories need a little makeover. Besides, looking at two adorably goofy guys all day isn't that difficult either.

As low-tech as the boys of Flight of the Conchords are, they're a geek entertainment staple. Don't get me wrong, it's not a show devoid of tech references, it's just that they're not exactly discussing 3G and Ubuntu here. Nope, my favorite New Zealanders may not be Apple devotees or own a flat screen, but at least Bret and Jemaine know the difference between DVD and VHS. Murray, I'm not so sure about. He kills me, that one - watch this clip for his appraisal of how fast technology moves! Whew!

Geeky Dreamboats Book: A Celebration (Indeed!)

Well, what do we have here? A compilation book full of hot geek men, Geeky Dreamboats: A Celebration ($13)?!

I'll be taking a copy for myself, plus several copies for my girlfriends, thank you very much.

Michale Cera, Adam Brody, Flight of the Conchords? Yes, I have crushed on all of these men (I'm willfully ignoring the Jonas Brothers inclusion).

HBO Releases Its Content For the Internet

The New York Times reports that HBO is joining the ranks of networks who have made their content available online - and for free! If only this had happened at the height of my Sex and the City obsession!

But take a deep breath, Flight of the Conchords lovers - here come the list of drawbacks: First, it's only free if you're already an HBO subscriber, it's only available for Windows PCs, and the content cannot be transferred to portable devices, so no taking your shows with you on your iPod. The content expires after four weeks, which is generous if you think of it as renting, but it's pretty shabby if you're comparing it to downloading shows for $1.99 on iTunes. Baby steps, though, right? But I have to wonder: Is Jemaine from the Conchords a Mac, or a PC kinda guy?

Geek Roundup: Your Favorite Fictional Geeks

Last week I asked you to share your favorite fictional geeks after I admitted my love for hobbits and the boys from HBO's Flight of The Conchords. Most of you ended up leaving your answers in the comments section of that story, revealing your love for Seth Cohen on "The OC," Bill from "Freaks and Geeks" (such a good choice daizyk70!) and of course, Hiro from "Heroes."

As for those of you who bookmarked your choices, the range is pretty exciting and hilarious. 7bits expressed his secret crush on Erin the Esurance girl, partysugar proved her love for the glamorous Hermione Granger and tdamji shared her love for the fabulously geeky Nancy Drew.

"Nancy Drew is the coolest!" says tdamji. "She solves mysteries that grown men can't, while looking totally snappy in her 1950s wardrobe (even in the new movie!), using her great geeky gadgets and never losing her cool." Touché!

Geek Out! Share Your Favorite Fictional Geeks

This Saturday happens to be Hobbit Day, which is the birthday of the hobbits Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. In case you missed the memo, Bilbo and Frodo are two fictional characters from J. R. R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit," and subsequently characters in the movie series staring Orlando Bloom and Elijah Wood.

The series happens to have an extremely high mark on the geek meter and a very special place in my heart. I wouldn't say either character can really hold the "geek" torch, but the impending day of celebration got me thinking about who I admire most in the geek world.

I've been obsessed with unmistakably geeky Bret and Jemaine from HBO's Flight of The Conchords recently. In last season's "The Actor" episode the two actually dressed up as hobbits when shooting a video for their song "Frodo, Don't Wear The Ring." We're probably lucky Bret eats "Lasagna for one" instead of real hobbit food like Lembas Bread. That might lead to geek overload.
