Couples Pics: Does a Stranger Take or Do You Take Yourself?

You finally get whisked away to that tropical island you've been fantasizing about behind your cubicle, but once you get there, you're forced to ask strangers to take some romantic shots of you and your beau. Other options include setting up a mini tripod, do the "hold out the arm and hope for the best shot," find a steady surface and 10-9-8 run to get that perfect picture, or you can get a random to play paparazzi.

When the adorable Seal and Heidi Klum attended the Emmys on Sunday, Seal got creative by capturing the photo himself on his iPhone as the two shared a kiss. But while watching the French Open (yes they managed to tear themselves away from their laptops), Eva Longoria and Tony Parker asked a total stranger to do the honors for them. I'd say I'm a good combo of both methods, what about you?

Tech Dating 101: He Pays More Attention to His Phone Than Me

Not to be a total Debbie Downer with this week's Tech Dating 101 topic, but there are many people who wish they could pull a hocus pocus move and make their significant other's cell phone magically disappear. Sound familiar?

The worst is when you're trying to enjoy a romantic moment - maybe while watching a sunset, or sitting under the stars - and wham! buddy pulls out his phone, or in my case, the attention-grabbing iPhone 3GS. And at that very instant, the romantic moment fizzles, and you're left wondering if this guy would rather play with an app than be with you.

Along the same lines as the gadgets in the bedroom post, I definitely think there's a time and place for gadget use. If you're just dating or starting out as a new couple, you should get the message across without sounding like the gadget police. Maybe tell them that you were really looking forward to spending time together, and it's good to be away from gadgets and distractions. . . nudge nudge, hint hint.

If the guy you're dating continues to ignore the fact that his cell phone obsession is bothering you, I'd be persistent about trying to get the point across, and if he is still glued to his cell phone during dates, kick this guy to the curb.

Now if you're in a serious relationship and he's reverted back to his ways because he thinks the honeymoon phase is over, address the situation as soon as his attention strays. And maybe on really romantic outings, suggest that he leave his cell phone at home!

Tony's a Mac and Eva's a PC

During a recent trip to St. Tropez, Eva Longoria and husband Tony Parker were not only captured jet skiing and soaking up some rays, but the happy couple also managed to mix business with pleasure by squeezing in some laptop time. Now I already knew that Eva was a PC girl, but I didn't know that her hubby was an Apple lover: here she is with her black Lenovo ThinkPad whereas Tony is rockin' a MacBook Pro. When I met my boyfriend, he was a PC user and then switched over to Macs, so we're now both using MBPs (which works out well for photos when we're both geeking out). What about you? Are you and your significant other both PC or Mac users? Does it ever become an issue when one prefers Windows and the other Mac OS X?

Eva Longoria Hearts Her KRZR and AT&T

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria seems to be a hot ticket on the geeky circuit. Last week we spotted her hanging out at the Microsoft Vista goodies party and yesterday she posed with the Motorola KRZR after accepting a $245,000 check on behalf of Padres Contra El Cancer from AT&T.

The money will go to help fund the organization's programs that provide support to Latino children battling childhood cancer and their families, and Eva apparently sang the praises of AT&T for their support. The cousin of the uber popular MOTORAZR, the MOTOKRZR is known for its slender form with "razor-thin design principles in a sleek clamshell form" - those are their words not mine. It has actually gotten rave reviews because though it's even smaller than the RAZR it is apparently a little sturdier. It also has an integrated MP3 player, airplane mode and Stereo Bluetooth headset support.

Microsoft's new operating system Vista won't be available to consumers until Jan. 30, but celebrities like Eva Longoria, Molly Sims and Maria Menounos showed up to show their support and test out the goods. Fergie's fella Josh Duhamel, DJ AM and William H. Macy showed there are still a few male geeks out there - although I always figured Macy to be a Mac man.

Joshua and Diane Make Sweet Flip Footage Together

Seeing Joshua Jackson and his adorable girlfriend Diane Kruger checking out their Flip video at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS benefit makes my heart melt. . . and it totally reminds me of the time when Eva Longoria Parker and her man oowed and awed over their sizzlin' pics!

Thankfully they opted for the pink pocket-sized Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder, the same one that Rosie O'Donnell has, which can hold up to 60 minutes of full VGA-quality video on 2GB of built-in memory. I wonder who is the techie in the relationship and who'll be in charge of uploading the video footage? Don't worry Joshua, it's really easy!

The BlackJack II by Samsung Debuts Style

Last night I put on my party dress and attended the star-studded BlackJack II by Samsung launch party in LA. Held at the hot new Mexican restaurant Beso (which officially opens mid-December) and hosted by self-confessed gadget girl Eva Longoria, my partner in crime Molly and I rocked out to a special performance by Mark Ronson and the Version Players and, best of all, got to check out the BlackJack II.

The AT&T exclusive Samsung BlackJack is a lot sleeker then I envisioned, and I was thoroughly impressed with the large 2.2-inch color display screen. This new Windows Mobile 5.0 PDA is powered by AT&T's 3G-enabled Broadband Connect network, includes an easy-to-use navigation click wheel, and comes with a 1.3-megapixel camera, which we all know is a must have! The BlackJack II boasts a full QWERTY keyboard for fast typing and Bluetooth connectivity and is available in slick black or red wine color options. After examining the BlackJack II, I was able to chat with CrunchGear's Peter Ha about cell phones and his love for his heavy 3-year-old Sidekick, which was totally adorable.

The party really got started when I kicked off my shoes and joined LC and Audrina for a dance session as we belted out Rihanna's "Umbrella." When we sat down to catch our breaths, the ladies pulled out their BlackBerrys for what else - texting! Call me a deer in the headlights, but after all our Hills tech quizzes, I didn't know if I should take a picture or start talking in text acronyms - what's a girl to do? So I joined in. But instead of using my BlackBerry Pearl, I pulled out my iPhone, hoping to score a few cool points, which I don't think happened. All in all, a very memorable evening indeed!

Are You Going to Upgrade to Vista?

Bill Gates has shocked the entire industry by using some unusual vocabulary to describe his excitement for the Microsoft Vista Operating System, which comes out today. "This 'Wow' thing is a great way of describing what we've got here," Microsoft's chairman told The Associated Press on Monday as the software maker began a slate of splashy events in New York. "There are chances for wows all over the product."

Looks like Jimmy Kimmel, who hung out at the Windows Vista Lounge with Eva Longoria, Molly Sims and DJ AM last week, has already gotten a chance to take the system for a spin. Now available to the public, Vista retails for $100 to $400, depending on the version and whether the user is upgrading from Windows XP. As a mac user I'm not as thrilled as some for the new OS, but I am excited by the idea of running it on my mac and seeing what the fuss is all about. So, who is running out and buying Vista right away?
