In honor of Earth Day, I was originally going to offer up my favorite eco geek and feature them in their own post. But once I got digging, I really couldn't decide on just one! Sure, the term "geek" may apply to more than gadgets in this case, but not only are these ten people lovably geeky in their own right, they all have one thing in common: they're passionate about our planet!

I know for some of you, today might not feel like Spring. The weather around the country has been harsh, and if you're begging for the sun to peek out from behind the clouds, there are some things you can buy to make it feel a little more Spring-like all year round. Sure, it's not the same as catching some rays in the park, but at least these things may help you keep a smile on your face.

The wild world of tech moves fast — too fast for some of us — and we're either faced with feverishly upgrading, or being the butt of the slow-moving gadget joke among friends (sample: "Zach Morris called, and he wants his cell phone back.")
But we must eventually upgrade most of our tech, whether it's for speed and capability, a government mandate, or a new hot phone you can't live without. I've recycled cell phones, given my old desktop to a younger sibling, sold TVs on Craigslist, and dropped VCRs off at thrift stores. Any way you can recycle a gadget, I've done it — but I have not thrown a gadget in the dumpster in years and years.

OK, I know you're probably sick of hearing me go on and on about recycling your old electronics, but I have an offer you won't be able to refuse. If you send your "gently-used" gadgets to Second Rotation, you'll get paid for them, in cash — simple as that! Fair enough, you may not get $500 for that old Toshiba TV hiding in the garage, but you will be dealing with a reputable company who offers free shipping for your goods and your gadget is going to a good home (not a landfill).

In honor of Earth Day, I challenge each and every one of you to think of ways to get greener — like decreasing your power consumption, reusing packaging and by recycling your old gadgets. Although this sleek looking SOLo Lounge Table by iF may not be the most practical way to show Mother Earth some love, it is truly impressive.
Being able to hold over 17 kilowatts of solar energy every year if situated outdoors, this table can provide power to the equivalent of 6,300 mobile phone charges, 8,400 digital camera charges, or 168 laptop computer charges each year.

Today is Earth Day, which means you should take the time to do a thorough E-waste spring cleaning! Did you know that every year more than 3.2 million tons of electronic waste is disposed in landfills? When computers, TVs and cell phones go to landfills, they can leak lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury, selenium, chromium, and many other toxic materials into drinking water and have serious effects on our health.
