I'm addicted to skipping through commercials via TiVo, but when I do watch live television, my eardrums get a major blast whenever ads come on. At first I thought it was just me, then I noticed the lack of volume control while at a friend's house watching a Sex and the City marathon. What gives?

Who needs doctors when you have YouTube?! There are hundreds of videos that will show you how to cure the common cold, deliver babies, heal a snake bite — and all you have to do is click play. This facetious idea comes to you courtesy of the video below and its Current TV host, whose conceit is that YouTube can help solve the healthcare issue in the US.

Forget the water cooler, all anyone talked about this week all over my workplace was the swine flu epidemic. You'd think that reading tech blogs all day, I'd have some sort of reprieve, but that was not the case at all.
In fact, tech and the swine flu were tightly associated, from an iPhone app that tracks the flu, a website that tracks it, and a Google Maps mashup that tracks it.

I look forward to Wondercon all year, mostly because it's in my hometown so I don't have to worry about flying, hotels, and cabs, but also because I get to check out tons of upcoming movies. Day two of Wondercon was packed (and I mean packed) with geeky and celebrity goodness. There's a lot to cover, but first up, is Up!

Now we're getting down to it! On this week's episode of Battlestar Galactica, we finally get let in on where, when, how, and why the "skinjobs" were created, not only thanks to Sam (for recalling his entire existence while in a coma), but to Ellen, who made a serious comeback this week.
What did you think about the episode?

It's not going to be all eggnog and booze-related damage done this Christmas, if you plan on playing the Wii with your family over the holidays. Doctors have coined a new term for Wii-related injuries, "Wii Knee."
The doctors say these Wii-caused aches and pains (which, despite the name, can affect any body part) occurbecause certain Wii games (like the classic, Wii Sports) encourage people to mimic playing sports.

A teenager who had surgery to remove a brain tumor made news when he also listened to his iPod during the procedure (well, while he was conscious). It reminded me of how I always listen to my iPod when I'm at the dentist; not having to hear the drill as loud saves me from having minor freak-outs.
It's not just the sound of my preferred music that I like, either; having something I'm so familiar with is comforting, and a great distraction if I'm enduring something painful or uncomfortable.

The vintage-loving souls who are into Lomo cameras (myself included) will dig this Lomo Notebook ($20), which asks you to get back to pen and paper for note-taking, not some fancy cell phone app.
Not only does the Lomo Notebook give you space to make notes about shots and locations, but it comes packed with Lomo info for you: lomography products, stores, "Lomo doctors" and a calendar.
Plus, you get to say "lomo" a lot, which is just fun.

Have you ever imagined having a doctor that you could call, email, IM, text or have video chats with at any time of day? Well for patients of Dr. Jay Parkinson, this is not only a possibility, but a virtual reality.

There is one group that has been neglected for long enough, and I'm seriously itching to learn about all you geeks and friends of geeks who peruse our pages. Don't be shy — nominate a Geek of the Week!
Tell us why your fave geek deserves the title, whether she has named all her gadgets after characters in Doctor Who, if you've caught him on tape while he ritualistically prepares for online Gears of War matches, or maybe she has choreographed an interpretive dance to the BSG theme song.
