Although a plump little plumber took over much of my game time over the past few weeks, I'm ready for a change of pace. And with this year's E3 on the horizon (along with plenty of gaming announcements), I'm even more excited for June to commence! I've always thought of portable gaming systems like the Nintendo DS or Sony PSP as substitutes for the real thing. Don't get me wrong, I always slip my DS into my purse when I know I am going to have to wait for a plane, train or automobile, but it's just not as engaging and exciting as playing the game on a console like the Wii or Xbox. It's the big sound. It's the vibration. It's the big screen. When it comes to gaming, do you prefer one or the other or do you love them equally?

With visions of Hungry Lumas still dancing in my head and some seriously calloused fingers from shredding it up Guitar Hero style, I would have to say that this has been a satisfying year for gaming indeed. Konami's Skin Software Makes Your DS A Beauty Guide

If I've learned anything at all about the Nintendo DS this year it's that Americans aren't using the handheld device to its fullest potential. Sure we aren't afraid of covering them with Swarovski Crystal Covers or giving them out to VIP airline passengers, but we haven't started using them as portable life coaches, yoga instructors and wine guides like the Japanese have.

Konami, the company that brought the wondrous DDR into our lives, has created a virtual beauty adviser game with real life beauty adviser Chizu Saiki (see her picture in gallery).

The game, which is appropriately named Dream Skincare, will release this fall in Japan. It's being marketed as a fun, easy beauty experience. Apparently, the game checks your physical and emotional health every day through a series of questions, allows you to input your meals, body temperature and body weight daily, stores a personalized daily schedule and provides dietary advice and healthy recipes. Who doesn't want that?

Hold On to Your Tanooki Suits: Super Mario 3DS Making Appearance at E3

Ever since the Nintendo 3DS hit the streets, I've been itching for a new Mario game to play. Turns out, there's a brand new one on the horizon that will make its first appearance at E3 this June.

According to Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario 3DS (which will launch sometime this year) will be like a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and the N64 version of Super Mario, but it will be much easier to play thanks to the 3D nature of the portable console. "For example, the floors floating in space: in 2D it’s difficult to judge the distance, but in 3D it’s really easy." I'm so excited to get my hands on it. Look for more details to come!

Nintendo 3DS Goes Pink For Valentine's Day

Just in time for the most romantic holiday of the year, Nintendo announced the pearl pink 3DS hitting shelves on Feb. 10 for $170. If you've got a sweetheart with a gaming addiction, the 3DS provides the fun of the well-known DS gaming system with the extra added bonus of glasses-less 3D. Since amazing 3D games seem to be a little hard to come by, you might consider buying Super Mario 3D Land ($40) to go along with it.

The new Nintendo 3DS will hit stores this Sunday, March 27 for $250.

Trade-Ins and Credits
Want to trade up for the newest version? Here's what you need to know:

Walmart - Starting this Sunday, you can trade in a used Nintendo DS model for up to a $100 credit toward the 3DS at authorized Walmart locations.
Target - Starting on Sunday, you can trade in any used Nintendo DS system for up to $50 in credit toward the purchase of a 3DS, or any other purchase in Target stores.
GameStop - Trade in your used Nintendo DSi XL for $100 in reservation credits, your DSi for $75, and your DS for $50 to put toward the purchase of a new 3DS.
