It's the calm before the gaming storm! Spring is not just for flowers and showers, it's the time for game companies to put the finishing touches on their work and prepare to show them off in the coming months. Look out for lots of new gaming news from now until late Fall — it's crunch time!

I've always thought of portable gaming systems like the Nintendo DS or Sony PSP as substitutes for the real thing. Don't get me wrong, I always slip my DS into my purse when I know I am going to have to wait for a plane, train or automobile, but it's just not as engaging and exciting as playing the game on a console like the Wii or Xbox. It's the big sound.

With visions of Hungry Lumas still dancing in my head and some seriously calloused fingers from shredding it up Guitar Hero style, I would have to say that this has been a satisfying year for gaming indeed. Now that game releases are slowing down to a crawl for the holiday season, there are a few good choices left and a slew of movie-to-game titles if you are looking to pick up something for yourself or trying to cram for last minute gift ideas. Not only are games a great gift, but so are gaming bundles and game rental subscriptions for those budding geeks in your life.

If I've learned anything at all about the Nintendo DS this year it's that Americans aren't using the handheld device to its fullest potential. Sure we aren't afraid of covering them with Swarovski Crystal Covers or giving them out to VIP airline passengers, but we haven't started using them as portable life coaches, yoga instructors and wine guides like the Japanese have.
Konami, the company that brought the wondrous DDR into our lives, has created a virtual beauty adviser game with real life beauty adviser Chizu Saiki (see her picture in gallery).

Although my eyeballs were plastered to LCDs for the majority of E3, I managed to take some breaks and head on over to the merch booths. I picked myself up one of these DS Lite organizers, which caught my eye from their resemblance to the one that comes with the lime green DS bundle. Brought to you by Power A, who makes tons of portable gaming accessories, you can get your own case from Target (my fave), Best Buy, and even Kmart.

Since Nintendo releases a new DS model every few years or so, I gotta keep mine covered and clean (so I can recycle or donate it later once I upgrade). But really, I just want to add a touch of style to my gaming to show off on the bus, plane, or wherever the need to play strikes. Check out a few of my favorite DS cases, including a few I just recently saw at the Tokyo Game Show in Japan!

November 21 is the official anniversary of the Nintendo DS, which hit stores five years ago today.
Over the past five years, the DS has seen its fair share of changes, from the cosmetic: awesome bundles and color options (like gold, red, blue, and green) and fun cases — to the inventive: this year's DSi and subsequent accessories and larger-screen model available overseas.
I'm proud to profess my love for the DS again this year: Happy Birthday Nintendo DS!

You already know about my addiction to Mini Ninjas, which I played on the Xbox 360 at this year's E3, but did you know that this game also came out on other platforms? I haven't tested out the Wii or PS3 editions, but I have been able to get my hands on both the Xbox 360 and DS versions to test and play.
As you may know, not all games are created equal on all platforms.
