Fake It With a Headphone-Print Tee

I really liked the headphones hoodie when I posted it a few months ago, but I wasn't sure who would wear it.

That is, until I threw a barbecue a couple weekends ago and one of my guy friends showed up in a headphones-printed tee, and got compliments on it all night long. Sincere compliments.

So now I want one, and I found this cute white Cassette Player Tee from Forever 21, with a very spare black graphic of earbuds - but instead of an iPod, the print is an anachronistic tape player. Cheeky enough for me to love it.

Oh my gosh, I absolutely love Says-It! When I first came across this rad site, I had no idea that you could choose from a variety of objects, signs, seals and badges to create hilarious graphics for! Says-It is just as addictive as MagMyPic because the options are endless with what you can design. Here I selected a lovely VHS tape to have some fun with and there's even an old school cassette tape to customize - fun fun! Just enter some text in the lines provided, choose colors and font, and click the "Go" button. A picture of a tape will be generated for you, which you can then email to friends or put them on your own blog or social networking site!

Mixed tapes on the Internet are rising in popularity, and I know if you're of a certain age, the sight of a cassette tape on any website seduces your memories with thoughts of the boyfriends, girlfriends, and unrequited crushes that handed you one of those little rectangles, full of emotions and messages.

But while most sites merely use the lexicon or imagery of the mixtape, like Muxtape and Mixwit, there's now a site that pulls at your heartstrings and discusses the real heart of mixed tapes: Cassette From My Ex.

Cassette From My Ex's blog posts are sentimental short stories of people recalling Summer romances or young loves and the mixtape that defined them. Being someone who has practiced the art of making a mixtape (and the art of dissecting one), I understand the loadedness of each song, the vulnerability bared with each track.

Cassette Tape Lamp: Love It or Leave It?

Whether it coordinates with your decor or not, some things get free passes for being eco-friendly examples of recycled objects that would have been wasted otherwise. Such is the case with this Cassette Tape Lamp by Transparent House.

Indeed, while this lamp, made up of used, superfluous cassette tapes possesses a certain '80s aesthetic, it's also disarmingly ethereal - and it hits me right in my green spot. I've got to say, for this: love it!

Vintage Geek: Radio-Cassette Corders

The other night I met up with some of my childhood friends at a cute club in the Mission in San Francisco. As we watched the slightly-less exciting third act (our friend spinned with the second act so we might have been a little biased) our conversation turned to the hilarious mix tapes we used to make one another when we were kids. While we didn't use anything like the AIWA Radio-Cassette Corder, which was made in 1976, we were definitely rocking similar technology - recording from CDs and other cassette tapes onto a cassette tape and sometimes, if we were feeling especially into it, recording personal jokes between songs. Yeah, we are that geeky. Oh wait, I mean, we were that geeky.

A favorite in the late 60s, 70s and into the 80s, radio-cassette combos were incredibly innovative in their time and despite the rapid decline (and some might say death) in the production of cassette decks, there are still some audiophiles that believe that cassette deck technology provides sound recordings superior to current digital technology, such as CDR and DAT. Created by Italian designer Marcella Foschi, these wallets are actually hand made from real (Italian) cassette tapes. Geek chic and Italian - be still my heart.
