JoJo Designs' Carrie Laptop Bag is the kind of summery laptop bag I need; in lightweight canvas, it would be light enough to toss my laptop into, along with sunny day essentials like my sunglasses, water, etc.
Its lightness belies its durability — just check out the cross-section photo of the bag loaded up with computer, books, and everything; of course, in the event that you do overload, they include a handy-dandy optional shoulder-strap.

Depending on my mood, I'll carry a laptop bag one day and then use a laptop sleeve the next. Sometimes it depends on how much is already in my purse and whether the sleeve and laptop can fit in there. Some days I curse my sleeves for making my bag so heavy, and some days I don't want to carry a whole extra bag.

For business, you know I'm all about classy and fabulous laptop bags, but for weekend pleasure, I need something that is easy to carry, protects the goods inside, and has somewhat of a cute exterior. A part of the Kata Digital Photo Series (DPS) Color Collection, these DR-467 backpacks feature everything you could ever want in a "gadget friendly" backpack — an ergonomic design, superior protection, a rain cover, a compartment that fits a 17-inch laptop and you can also hook it up to an InserTrolly for easy traveling. Other colors besides the pink and lime green shown below include black and beige.

I'm always on the lookout for chic new laptop bags, and I'm loving this Verdigris Laptop Handbag ($42) from Brooklyn Industries. I like the bag's utilitarian-meets-classy canvas and patent leather design and slim silhouette; it's not like most other laptop bags I've seen. Plus, the shoulder strap detaches, so you can carry the bag like a briefcase.

I use my iPhone for most things — scheduling, phone calls, photos, email — but one old-school goody I won't give up is my Moleskine day planner. No matter how many calendar entries I keep in my iPhone, I like to have an on-paper record of my schedule, too. Then this happened:
I was running late for a connecting flight and grabbed a bottle of water at an airport newsstand before racing to the gate.

There's no fighting it — back to school time is here. I've already shown you ways to stylishly carry your laptop, ways to make your studying environment more ergonomic, and which gadgets to toss in your new Fall bag, so here's a simple and cheap way to keep your dorm nice and neat.
From Ikea (one of my favorite places to shop, by the way), this PS Laptop Workstation ($60) allows you to get your term paper written without having to use your bed as a work station, and keeps all your desk essentials in one compact space.

I have sung the praises of the HP Mini on a few occasions, and can't get enough of the netbook craze altogether. And although I love the mighty little machine, it does come with a certain disadvantage: it's so small you might lose it to the depths of your full-sized laptop bag. I know, I know, I shouldn't complain — the lighter the laptop means less shoulder strain for me.

I can't believe I'm already talking about heading back to school. It feels like just yesterday I was waxing poetic about beach gadgets, and here I am talking about which ones to toss in your new Fall bag. Your very stylish bag I'd expect, much like the Hayden-Hartnett Ibiza ($200) number that I just can't get enough of.

I seek out the chic, practical bags to carry my laptop around in, but there are some bags that have caught my eye for being so sexy, so edgy and offbeat, that I have to show them off. If you consider yourself an avant-garde fashionista, you won't be able to resist.
