Cool Capture: A Black and White Long Exposure Experiment

There are so many awesome photos to choose from in our Cool Capture group, that it's getting hard to decide which one to feature here! If you're anything like me (and I have a feeling you are), then you always have a camera handy just in case an opportune moment arises to capture something beautiful, just like GeekSugar community member icecreamsprinkle who shot this image. I adore light trails, and sometimes it's experimentation that gets you the best results. She says:

Using my Canon PowerShot SD870 IS, I took this picture while experimenting with the long exposure setting on the highway at night and it was raining.

Maria Serves up Diamond-Encrusted Cameras by Canon

Tennis star Maria Sharapova is quite the busy gal. Already one of the faces of Canon's PowerShot cameras, she now lends herself to a line of new cameras - the limited edition Canon Powershot Diamond Collection cameras.

To kick off the new collection, Canon is giving away five diamond-studded PowerShot SD1100 cameras (find contest on right side of the page) which feature 88 white diamonds totaling 2.22 carats each around the lens.

I can't imagine that these cameras come cheap, so even if you aren't thrilled about the idea of having a blinged-out camera, just imagine how much it's worth (hello - eBay?!).

Underwater Camera Cover - Chic and Practical

The first thing I saw when I entered the Macworld exhibit hall today was the Canon Waterproof Housing for Powershot Digital Cameras. Perhaps it caught me at a vulnerable moment (techie overload!), but I think this thing is fantastic!

According to the rep, the camera cover, $139.99, is incredibly popular with scuba diving types and nature photographers, but lots of people buy the covers for those Caribbean vacations. The completely waterproof case was designed specifically for Canon PowerShot S200 and S230 digital cameras and can work for depths of 100 feet or less. It also protects your camera against dirt or sand at the beach or on the hiking trail or at camp. Considering the investment we make on our digital cameras these days, this thing seems necessary if you're an outdoorsy-mermaid type.

Canon's New Point-and-Shoot Cameras Resemble DSLRs

I don't know what it is about a black, rugged, encasing, but I automatically think - DSLR! Canon has yet again dressed its PowerShot cameras to impress with new exteriors and advanced features like customizable shot settings.

The six new cameras from four different product lines are great for those who want something a little bit more advanced than their regular point and shoot, but aren't ready to make the leap to an expensive DSLR yet.

Take for instance this new 10 megapixel S90 that is tiny and compact, but boasts features from the PowerShot G-series camera line. The new cameras range in price from $249 - $499 and will hit store shelves in September and October.

New Canon PowerShot D10 Is Shock-, Freeze-, and Water-Proof

Have you been waiting for a point-and-shoot digital camera that can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'? The PowerShot D10 is one of the most appealing models in Canon's refreshed line of cameras, due to its 12-megapixel sensor and ability to go underwater, in freezing temperatures, and resistance to being dropped (if you're prone to that . . . like some people I know. And when I say some people, I mean me).

The plates of color are interchangeable - looks like blue, orange and camo are the choices, and the camera will cost $330 and be available starting in May, just in time for Summer.
