Celebrity Gadget: Alicia Keys' Samsung Camcorder

It seems Alicia Keys was more interested in watching the Minnesota Timberwolves play the New York Knicks Game at Madison Square Garden through her tiny Samsung Camcorder last week than watching say, the court.

From what I can tell the songstress has got herself a 2.1 Mega Pixel Miniket Camcorder with built-in 1 GB.

The Miniket allows you access to personal movies, pictures, music, data, web communication and costs $1,599 off the Samsung site. I can't help but notice it looks like Alicia has a gold camcorder, which may or not be some sort of "unattainable for us non-celebrity gadget lovers" edition. Pure Digital Kicks Off Massive Camcorder Giveaway

Starting today, Pure Digital Technologies will be launching a one million Flip Video Camcorder giveaway to benefit nonprofits worldwide. The Flip Video Spotlight program came about when former President Bill Clinton approached Pure Digital, requesting that video be used to shed light on world issues that need to be addressed. With a million pocket-sized camcorders that have built-in software for direct uploading to YouTube, the possibilities are endless for what can be achieved with this initiative.

"We believe video can help change the world,” said Jonathan Kaplan, Chairperson and CEO of Pure Digital Technologies in a press release. "Non-profit organizations do incredible everyday work that the public rarely sees. Imagine the impact that video would make if every on-the-ground staff member or volunteer had both a camcorder and the ability to broadcast their message to the world.”

Pure Digital will distribute up to one million Flip Video Camcorders to nonprofits and other qualified non-governmental organizations (NGOs) over the next five years, starting this December. These groups will be able to use video as a tool to highlight the need for their services, better communicate with their donors, and broadcast their accomplishments to the world. Qualified nonprofits and NGOs can sign up to purchase Flip Video Spotlight Kits at Flip Video Spotlight and will receive the necessary tools to begin using video technology effectively. The massive camcorder giveaway kicks off today at the Clinton Global Initiative where the camcorders will be distributed to each of the current and former heads of state and other leaders. How cool is that?!

The Samsung HD Pocket Camcorder Competes With the Flip

Since the debut of the pocket sized Flip digital camcorder over two years ago, there have since been many similar devices to hit the market (like the Kodak Zx1), but up until now, there hasn't been one that really stands out.

Well Samsung has just announced their new HMX-U10 compact camcorder and it's already gaining attention from Flip fans. With its high def capturing functionality, the ability to take 10 megapixel stills, and a built-in video editing application, the U10 has everything you could want in a pocket cam.

Other notable features include a 2-inch LCD display and a one-touch option for uploading videos to YouTube. . . although no word of included fancy schmancy video editing software.

These cameras are making their way to the UK in September, so I'm assuming they'll be stateside by Christmas. Rumored pricing is said to be around $200 each.

Just when I thought I had included the best of the best in my stars flipping out with their Flip video cameras slideshow, none other than Conan O'Brien shows off his geekery in LA yesterday.

And who is the adorable subject that Conan is capturing with his ultra-compact Flip Mino? That would be his son Beckett, who was taking a little pony ride in Griffith Park. . . sister Neve wasn't too far behind. Now if only we could see some of that footage on YouTube!
