British Mac Adds Called "Too Smug"

Unless you're a real Mac fanatic, or have taken a trip to the UK lately, you probably haven't seen the new UK "Get A Mac" ads, which seem to be stirring up some controversy for how they portray PC users. Says Macworld UK: "These include ‘Naughty Step’ where PC suggests that doing fun stuff should be punishable; ‘Magic’ where PC exchanges a file with Mac to much funfair; and ‘Court’ which examines how easy it is to make a photo book." According to the Macworld article, YouGov's BrandIndex indicated that the public’s opinion of Apple has been less favorable since the ads began to air in the UK. Apparently, people think the British Mac character has given the impression that Mac users are "too smug." Check out more "smug" images below,

I think part of the charm of the Mac ads is the fact that the Mac is a bit smug and snarky, but maybe that's just me. Anyone think they are offensive enough to "change your favor?"

It's time to welcome in a whole new year, but before we say hello to 2012, there's one final thing to get right for 2011: your makeup. New Year's Eve is often a celebratory occasion that goes well on into the wee hours, so before you step out in your finest frock, check out these tips on how you can keep your makeup looking fresh the whole evening - or morning - through.

For your complexion: "It's all about layering," says Ana Cruzalegui, CEO of British-based We Are Faux. Enhance your makeup's resiliency by applying the following three products in this order: a primer prefoundation, a concealer under the eyes and on areas that need a touch more coverage, and a sheer powder to set.
For eyes: "A cream shadow applied on the lids before you apply powder eye shadow is great for a long night," Cruzalegui explains. She also suggests using water-resistant mascara and eyeliner (MAC Chromaline liner is a favorite) for increased staying power.
For lips: If you opt for bright lip color, try something with a matte finish. "It lasts longer and is easier to fix throughout the evening," Cruzalegui advises. "And who knows? You may find yourself under the mistletoe."

Meet the New Designer of Chloé: Clare Waight Keller

Another big designer move was announced this morning: Clare Waight Keller is taking the Chloé reigns from Hannah MacGibbon, who is leaving Chloé after 10 years to pursue "new projects," according to WWD. What does this mean for the French luxury house and fans of Chloé's feminine sophistication? You can count on a continued emphasis on knitwear injected with a dose of sexiness. Waight Keller, who like MacGibbon, is British born, just finished a six-year stint as creative director of Pringle of Scotland, where she resurrected the heritage line into something modern and cool and reworked the line's knitwear. Before that, she worked under Tom Ford at Gucci, which means she knows a thing or two about sex appeal. Waight Keller will officially take over June 1, so we can look forward to seeing her first collection for Chloé at Spring 2012 Fashion Week.
