How to: Export Your Bookmarks Before a Browser Breakup

Dealing with a faulty web browser that keeps crashing is like banging your head against a wall. You need it to surf the Internet, but you long to break free of all of its issues.

So if you've totally had it with your current browser (I'm talking about you, Firefox), but are afraid to separate due to your intricate organization of your bookmarks, don't be. You can export your bookmarks from whatever browser you're using now and install them on a new, fresh browser of your choosing. Best of all, you can do this in just three steps.

Open up the browser you want to export from. Click on File, and Export Bookmarks (if you're exporting from Firefox, you'll click on Bookmarks, Organize Bookmarks, then click on the export tab on the pop-up window), and save the HTML file to your desktop.
Next, open up the browser you want to import to, go to File, and Import, and select the HTML file you just saved (if you're importing to Flock, it will automatically detect which browsers you have available and import). You should find your file of imported bookmarks on your toolbar, or in your bookmarks menu.
Then, just drag and drop your bookmark folders where you want them to be on your toolbar and you're set to go!

File this one under "awesome tools to help you finish your term paper," especially if there is heavy research involved. The extension is called Zotero, and it's too bad I didn't have this back when I was in school, since it would have made my life so much easier!

Zotero works on your Firefox browser to help you organize and keep track of your links, notes, and photos that you need to finish up your research. But unlike other bookmarking extensions, Zotero allows you to take additional notes, tag, and organize your collection of mind blowing data right on the web page you're checking out. And although it's super handy to use while surfing the Internet for facts, you can also use Zotero offline if you're cruising through Word Docs or eBooks that you have stashed away on your hard drive.

It's easy to install and use Zotero. Just install the extension, and you'll see the Zotero logo right on your browser. Zotero follows you like other extensions wherever you are on the web, so you'll never be without it. By clicking the icon, you'll open the Zotero interface, which will house your notes, links, tags, and folders so you can keep yourself organized. Entering items is easy too, as you just click the second icon in your location bar, and the webpage contents are instantly added to your "collection" for you to edit, tag, and take notes.

Delicious Gets a Redesign - Woohoo!

Oh Delicious, I almost (I said almost) forgot about you, and then you go and do something brilliant - you get a very much needed makeover! I was seriously considering walking away from all of my favorite bookmarks, or at least moving them to a much more user-friendly site, but alas, you pull though with a fresh new name (minus all the . and . 's), a slick new UI and a much faster search engine - nice work! And the best part about the new look? The big and beautiful notes fields that you can either change to reveal more bookmark info or compact their display with a single click on the Tag Bar!

You know me, I love to share tips, tricks, downloads, and news all day long, every day of the week, 24/7. I'm sharing right now as I type! You might even consider it an obsession.

So knowing that I could make it easier on myself when I want to submit links to my bookmarking or sharing sites like Digg, Reddit, and Twitter by using Shareaholic - an award winning Firefox add-on that works like a hub for all my social networking and bookmarking services. It sends out my favorite links in one shot without me having to copy or paste a thing.

Once you download Shareaholic, a green button appears on your browser, letting you customize which sites you want to send links to. When you come to a webpage you think is worthy, just click the green share button, select your service (i.e., StumbleUpon) and your link is copied and sent to the site for you, ready to submit. How easy is that?

Geek Tip: Get Your Del.icio.us Bookmarks On Your Cell

I don't know how important your del.icio.us bookmarks are to you, but mine act as my personal yellow pages - basically a huge reference area for all my important web links.

Now I can get these great sites via my cell phone with a free service called Mobilicio.us. With Mobilicio.us I can browse through all of my bookmarks right from the convenience of my cell phone's browser.

How to Use Bookmarks on the Sugar Network

Want a way to collect and share the cool stuff you find on the web? Have we got something for you! It's time to start using one of our favorite PopSugar Community features: bookmarks! Bookmarks are a cool and simple way to save stuff you find on the web.

It's really easy. If you have been with us for a while and already know how to Fab Find, you'll see the above pictured bookmark choices the next time you use your existing Fab Find button.

To start bookmarking, you'll just have to add a simple link to your browser's favorites or toolbar. However, unlike a normal link, you will not be able to click on it first (if you do, nothing will happen and it won't work).

Here's the link: Bookmark on PopSugar Community, you'll need to add it one of these ways:

Option 1: Right-click on the link above and select "Bookmark this link."
Option 2: Drag the link onto your toolbar or favorites.

I suggest option 2, putting the link directly on your toolbar for easiest access.

Here are the steps for bookmarking items once you have the link above in your toolbar.

Find the product you want to bookmark.
Click the Bookmark button on your toolbar. A window will pop up with your bookmark.
Change the title, if you want.
Fill out the Categories and Tag fields, if you want.
Select the group you want to post to from the drop-down.
If you want to create a Layout with your bookmarks, add them by clicking on Add Image and Your Bookmarks tab.
Once you have created a Layout, you can easily make a widget to post on any of the Sugar sites, a group, or your own personal site.

Adorable Mark-My-Time Digital Bookmarks

Although these bookmarks may be targeted to the likings of kids, I personally think they were worth mentioning for us adults as well - and for all of you who are parents and want to help bring out the bookworm in your children! Website of the Day: Duffel

There are a ton of travel planning sites, but I just found my new favorite. Duffel (find the site at duffelup) calls itself "a trip-planning tool for people who are not planning any trips," but it's pretty handy for actual trip planning, too.

Sign into the site to create trips - real or imagined - to any place in the world. Then add the Duffel bookmarking tool to your browser's bookmarks. When you visit sites of interest for your trip - hotels, tours, restaurant listings, or even just a random sentence or two about something cool to do in the area - click the bookmark to save it to your Duffel. You can set saved trip information to public or private, or opt to share them with just a few people, like family or travel partners.

There are more great features on the site, too, from the easy to use drag and drop interface to the incorporation of Google maps to a printable itinerary view condensing all of your saved information into a printable list. Duffel also offers suggestions to popular destinations like New York City or Las Vegas.

I've been having a blast creating and adding to a few "dream" trips I'd like to take . . . now the only problem is figuring out where to go first.

Stephenie Meyer Geeks Out With Her Mac on Oprah

Did you happen to catch Oprah's big exclusive interview with Twilight's Stephenie Meyer on Friday? Since I'm gearing up for the New Moon premiere (this Friday!), I was excited to hear Meyer talk about the movie and was excited to learn any insider NM secrets before its big debut. Being a Mac-addict myself, I couldn't help but notice that Meyer is the proud owner of a 17-inch MacBook Pro - which by the way has a glossy screen, something I don't think I could get use to! What I would give to get a glimpse of her desktop, to see how she organizes all of her documents, and to see if there are any special vampire websites bookmarked in her browser!
