Should You Be Able to Say Anything Negative on the Internet?

Jan 07, 2009 - It's quite the litigious news day for the Internet, what with the news that a Yelp user is being sued for his negative review of a doctor, and a model is suing Google because of anonymous nasty comments about her which were posted on a Blogger-hosted blog. Disregarding the validity of each case, they both present interesting cases for how we should and shouldn't use the Internet; as for Yelp, you're supposed to be able to post negative reviews (reviews tending to be one way or the other); will each negative claim be investigated? Could I be sued for not being able to prove that I found a hair in my burrito? - 25 Comments

Oct 26, 2009 - I read a story last week about the small (and shrinking) population of US residents that don't have a cell phone — which included my fellow blogger and friend, Gregory Han, from Unplggd. Although a portion of this group do not have the means to own one, a majority of this population has made a conscious decision to ditch the phone by their own accord. Feb 04, 2008 - At the risk of dating myself, I'm just going to put it out there that I was a huge Doogie Howser, MD fan. In fact, I couldn't have been more ecstatic a few years ago when Neil Patrick Harris made a triumphant comeback with Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, which of course led to his awesome role as Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother. May 16, 2007 - If only blogging was as cool as it is now when I was in college...but then again, who knows how much studying I would have done! A recent USA Today article suggests that more universities are joining a growing trend of posting "an interactive online diary and several other unfiltered student blogs directly on their homepages as a recruiting tool." What universities are hoping for, is that prospective students can get a true glimpse of campus life from other students blogging about it. - 12 Comments
