I think we were all shocked beyond disbelief when earlier this year a 28-year old woman died of water intoxication after entering a radio station's Hold Your Wee for a Wii contest. Jennifer Strange was one of eighteen participants who tried to win a Wii by drinking more than two liters of water without going to the bathroom. It's no surprise that this story was voted as the most shocking tech news story of 2007. I've heard many stories about people going to great lengths to get a Wii, but I'd have to say this one was far too extreme and dangerous for my liking.

It was a tight race, but the phone that received the most votes in the favorite concept phone of 2007 poll was Tarati's touchless cell phone. Industrial Designer Branko Lukic has created the Tarati to enable the user to connect with others by passing fingers, in order, through key holes. "This action of dialing alone is a more magical experience and, hence, more indicative of what's really happening beyond the visible realm," says Yanko Design. "Tarati beckons the user to “touch” someone without physically touching a single key. Its design reflects human connectivity in a less material/mechanical, more sensual, way. Winning with the most votes for the favorite geeky craft of '07 is the cross-stitched Princess from Super Mario Bros. shirt. Coming in second was my personal fave, the bright and creative Tetris quilt with 39 votes. I must admit that Princess Peach does look pretty hot embroidered on a men's shirt. I wonder if this guy has saved the Princess a few too many times playing Mario? Now if only I knew how to embroider articles of clothing. . .
