When I first glanced at the game, I assumed it was a video game with challenges like, "Coordinate the Lip Gloss to the Nail Polish," or "Ultimate Smoky Eye Challenge," but when I saw the tag line, "Girls just wanna have business," I realized my mistake. Beauty Factory is an exercise in being a cosmetics industry mogul, and has more to do with marketing and innovating than mascara and eye shadow application.

Britney Spears stepped out of a Las Vegas hotel tonight wearing her beautiful Neil Lane engagement ring. The newly engaged star and her fiancé, Jason Trawick, are in Sin City to celebrate his 40th birthday. Britney and Jason arrived on a private jet earlier in the evening, though she managed to keep her custom-designed sparkler concealed under a pair of gloves.

Upon their arrival, Britney and Jason slipped out of their travel gear and a few hours later were spotted modeling festive attire and bright smiles. Britney and Jason dined at the Sugar Factory American Brasserie then made their way to Planet Hollywood's roof top club where Britney showed off her ring and Jason cut into a birthday cake. Her rep confirmed the engagement reports, and Britney updated her Facebook relationship status to "engaged."

Designers, Films, and Shelter Mags Create Inspiring Designs at This Year's Designer Visions 2011

Last week, Hearst magazines unveiled three different apartments at 1212 Fifth Avenue in New York, designed by three different firms, and inspired by three different films, at its Designer Visions 2011 event. House Beautiful teamed up with Heather Moore for Jed Johnson Associates to design an apartment inspired by the movie Factory Girl while Veranda worked with Thomas O'Brien on an apartment inspired by the film Someone to Watch Over Me. And finally, Town & Country featured a home by Carrier and Company inspired by Igby Goes Down. Take a peek at each of the three apartments in our slideshow!

Trends. They seduce us into buying a hot item, only to leave us a year later with an emptier wallet and a useless widget.

But there’s one trend we at LearnVest can get behind: conscious consumerism.

At its most basic level, buying consciously just means taking a couple of extra seconds to consider each purchase. It’s a way to buy healthier food, keep your home free of clutter and keep your budget intact.

But what we’re talking about in this case is the ethical consumption movement, or buying with an eye toward your fellow (wo)man and the environment.

The Basics of Conscious Consumerism

Often called “voting with your dollar,” conscious consumerism is a way to support your values every time you walk into a store. It can be as simple as using natural toothpaste, as stylish as finding a fair trade purse from a company that employs women in Ghana or as grand as boycotting a misbehaving corporation.

It’s also effective. The rise of brands like Burt’s Bees and Newman’s Own shows that consumers like you are eager to support brands that treat people, animals and the environment with respect. Conscious consumption can even be a fashion statement. Just ask one of the many proud wearers of TOMS shoes. Because of these brands’ successes, large corporations are sitting up and taking notice.

For the conch episode of Top Chef All-Stars, we have Finnish favorite, chef Stefan Richter, sharing his thoughts.

What's up everybody?! Lots has happened since I blogged last time. I have been to Finland, my homeland, and I opened a steakhouse in a beautiful cotton factory on a river in Tampere. You can see pictures on my Facebook or follow me on Twitter, if you like. Finland was fun, exiting, and a little emotional. My mom used to work across my new restaurant, 45 years ago as a chef at the Grand Hotel Tammer in Tampere.

Back to Top Chef: I haven't watched it since my Paisano Fabio got kicked off and I'm not really in the loop. So Carla is gone, Marcel is gone, Jamie my little love is gone, and who else is worth mentioning? This season it is pretty boring in my eyes, not because I'm not on, because most of it looks so calculated and preorganized and made up. And Sesame Street, really? What's next week? Hannah Montana or Justin Bieber? Maybe the Mickey Mouse Club on Masters? BRAVO you want some challenges? Hire me, I'll make them up for you.
