AT&T Announces New Data Plans For Smartphones and Tablets: Details You Need to Know

AT&T announced new data plans for smartphones and tablets today that will take effect starting Jan. 22. As always when it comes to change, there's good news and bad news. Each plan costs about $5 more than the previous plans (that's the bad news), but the good news is that you'll get 100MB more data on the Plus plan and 1GB more data on the Pro plans than you were getting before. Current customers can stick with the plans they're already on or switch up to the new plans, whereas new AT&T customers will have to select one of the new plans at signup starting on Sunday.

Smartphones

AT&T Data Plus 300MB: $20
AT&T Data Pro 3GB: $30
AT&T Data Pro 5GB: $50, with mobile hotspot or tethering

It'll cost an extra $20 for an extra 300MB on the Plus plan and $10 for each additional gigabyte on the two Pro plans.

Tablets

AT&T DataConnect 3GB: $30
AT&T DataConnect 5GB: $50

Nokia Is Back: Lumia 900 Coming to AT&T Soon

The wait is over, y'all; Nokia head Stephen Elop took the stage alongside Steve Ballmer and AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega earlier today to officially announce the 4G LTE Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone, slated to hit AT&T in the coming months. The phone is quite a stunner with a 4.3-inch AMOLED screen and your choice of cyan or black for an exterior hue. There are over 50,000 apps just waiting to be discovered in the Windows Marketplace, including those from partners like Sesame Street, CNN, and ESPN, and you can download plenty of apps, music, movies, and lots more with 16GB of storage space.

If you're a smartphone photographer, the 8MP camera will impress: it's stocked with a Carl Zeiss F2.2 aperture lens for the clearest and best possible pictures. There's even a 1MP F.2.4 forward-facing camera.

PlayStation Vita Popping Up on AT&T Next Month

AT&T revealed that it will be providing data plans for the PlayStation Vita beginning next month. Prices will start at $15 for 250MB or $25 for 2GB, and will be term-free, meaning you don't have to worry about cancellation fees after you sign up. The Vita itself has been given a street date of Feb. 22, with two models being made available at launch: $250 for WiFi-only, and a $300 3G version. Gaming online from anywhere has never been easier!

How-To: Check Your iPhone Data Usage

Wondering just how much data you're pulling down in a given month on your iPhone? There are a few ways to check your usage, one being to head to AT&T's wireless website, log into your account, and create a billing report (under " Bills and Payments," click "Create Billing Report," and "Data Usage Trend"), which gives you a detailed graph on how much data you're using. You can also estimate how much you use with your provider's online data calculator. Find your usage for AT&T, Verizon, or by signing in to your Sprint account.

AT&T Black Friday Deals Starting at One Cent

If wireless products are topping this year's present wish lists, AT&T has you covered with a Thanksgiving weekend of promotions. Starting at 12:01 a.m. on Black Friday, AT&T's website deals page will unveil sales on touchscreen devices (yes, including tablets) with new gadget deals rolling out each day through Monday. The rest of the weekend features:

Saturday, Nov. 26 - All Windows 7 and certain Android devices are available for one cent.
Sunday, Nov. 27 - The BlackBerry 9860 is one cent and HTC's Red Inspire is $30.
Monday, Nov. 28 - Select smartphones including the Motorola Atrix, Samsung Infuse, and HTC Inspire sell for one cent.

The deals come with a few strings; all require a two-year service plan, smartphones require AT&T voice and the minimum $15 monthly data plan, and messaging devices must be purchased with a minimum $20 monthly messaging plan. Verizon Introduces Tiered Data Plans, Rolling Out Tomorrow

We knew this day was coming - the end of Verizon unlimited data plans. Verizon confirmed it will switch to a tiered data pricing model for new customers beginning Thursday, July 7.

A Verizon spokesperson dishes on the details saying:

". . . new smartphone customers will choose from one of three options: $30 for 2 GB, $50 for 5 GB or $80 for 10 GB. There will be an overage charge of $10 per GB of data. Verizon will also charge $10 for 75 MB per month for feature phone users."

Good news is current customers on unlimited plans can keep their unlimited plans as they upgrade to new devices. AT&T also recently began usage-based data service; though, their 2GB plan is just $25 per month. Once Verizon's new data policies go into effect, Sprint will be the only top nationwide provider to offer unlimited data packages for smartphone plans.

For those considering a wireless carrier switch, act fast for unlimited data before Verizon's Thursday changeover. If you are already on a tiered data plan - which option do you use?

HTC Status Gets Official, Coming to AT&T This Summer

HTC officially announced the HTC Status (aka. "the Facebook phone"), which is headed for AT&T this Summer. Running Android 2.3 and coming with a 2.6-inch touchscreen, the Status has yet to be priced, but the phone already has its own Facebook page. Appropriate, since this phone has Facebook integrated into its bones.

Coming with a button that connects you directly to Facebook in a flash, you can instantly share a wide range of items, as well as see what your friends are up to with just a touch. Some examples of things you can do just by pressing the Facebook Share button include:

Start and maintain multiple private Facebook chat sessions.
Instantly post a status update from the phone's home screen on your wall or a friend's wall.
Take a photo, then press the share button to instantly post on your wall or to an album.
Check in on Facebook Places/
Share stories you find on the Internet: from the webpage, you can click the share button and instantly post to your wall.
Share the info on the music track you're listening to right from the music player when you press the Facebook share button.

Other awesome features coming with the HTC Status include lock-screen shortcuts (drag your favorite apps or features into the lock screen "ring"), two cameras - 5MP rear-facing with autofocus and VGA forward-facing - with built-in camera effects.
