Idols Take Twitter and Facebook Questions on Larry King Live

In case you missed it, we have a new American Idol! Although I couldn't bring myself to choose between the top two (they were both so good), I think this was one of the best seasons I've seen in a long time. To add to the recent Idol mania (there were over 100 million finale votes cast by phone and text this year), the top ten Idols will be appearing in a two part Larry King Live special (airing tonight at 9:00 p.m. and Monday), and will be taking your questions to be asked on-air.

Personally, I'm loving how technology is connecting people, and allowing them to sort of "get in touch" with their favorite celebs (even if some of your favorite celebs don't exactly want to get in touch with you). If only I could have Twittered directly to Jonathan Brandis all those years ago (any other Seaquest DSV fans in the house?), I would have been one happy geek! Ahh, Lucas Wolenczak. But I digress. . .

Thankfully, Larry King is all about the social networking these days, so you can easily submit your Idol questions via Facebook (by posting your question at CNN's fan page), or you can Tweet your question to @kingsthings or by adding the hashtag #LKL to the end of your tweet. It's that simple. The bad news is only one question will make it on the show - so make it a good one!

The other night, during Season Eight auditions on American Idol, Simon Cowell - who never has difficulty conjuring up an opinion - took aim at contestant Anoop Desai. Although he got four thumbs up on his vocals, Cowell was unimpressed with his attire, "It looks like you just came out of a meeting with Bill Gates or something," he said. I loved the tech talking! David Cook Makes Sure His MacBook Pro Gets Safely Stowed

I had a kid come up to me once at an airport to tell me that the handle on my guitar (Guitar Hero guitar, that is) could pop down for easier transportation. So I'm wondering if American Idol winner David Cook has a mini guitar hiding in that backpack - I mean, we did see him shake his groove thang during a game of GH, so I guess he potentially could. But then again, I know how much he travels with his real guitar.

Regardless of what gaming toys he has tucked away, it's obvious that he really is a Mac boy, which I didn't know for sure, even though contestants were decked out with Apple gear during the last season of AI. Let's just hope he didn't enroll in the TSA's Clear-to-Fly Program. And BTW, that is AI alum Kimberly Caldwell behind him!

Guitar Hero On Tour With American Idols

If you're secretly longing to grab a seat for the American Idols Live! tour this year then you may now have a good excuse to go without being made fun of by your friends: they'll let you tinker around with the new Guitar Hero World Tour system, and then compete during a special "half-time" competition between Idols and fans.

Since Guitar Hero has already made friends with the Idol franchise, enlisting the top two Davids to star in their hilarious Risky Business commercials, it's only natural that they would take them on tour as a cool opening band. You'll find Guitar Hero on Tour and Steven Tyler Editions in booths along the tour route, and as for the half-time competition, GH experts will square off with the Idols on stage to be crowned. . . um, Top Shredder, I guess?

On a side note, who was the evil costume designer that put David Cook in that wig?

Did You Use Text Messages to Send American Idol Votes?

With season seven of American Idol wrapping up last week (congrats David Cook!), I was completely shocked that a whopping 97 million votes were cast last Tuesday night. From that 97 million, a record-breaking 78 million were generated from text messages through votes, trivia contests, and other SMS content.

When AT&T polled 416 users about their texting and Idol habits, 51 percent said they text more frequently during the Idol season than other times, while 22 percent said they first learned how to text by voting for singers. Although I was totally obsessed with Idol this season, I have to admit that I . . . didn't vote! I know, I know, such an Idol hypocrite. Next season, I promise. What about you? Were you one of the 78 million who sent a vote via text?

Men Without Pants! American Idol Busts a Guitar Hero Move

Watching these Guitar Hero spots with David Cook and David Archuleta each re-enacting the famous depantsed-Tom Cruise scene in Risky Business with the video game, it's pretty obvious why Cook was crowned American Idol. He really commits in this clip, ruling the lip-synced song, and showing off all his moves. I'm sure Simon would agree. I guess the ad did its job too - I totally want to go pick up my plastic guitar and unleash my inner rock star!
