WonderCon 2008: Connor Chronicles Convos

If you haven't been tuning into Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles lately, you've been missing out on some sweet geeky hotness (i.e.: Brian Austin Green and Thomas Dekker). . .and that's about it. The show itself is pretty comical (not in a good way), but definitely action packed - if you like sweaty men running around with guns that are being hunted by cybernetic organisms from the future. And who doesn't, right? Right. Despite the backlash of viewers accusing the show of having continuity and character issues, it's still doing pretty well for itself since crushing the competition its opening week.

Although I'm not a big fan of the show, I am a fan of Summer Glau. And on day three of WonderCon, I was not alone. Many of my Firefly and Serenity comrades were in the crowd as well to support our "River Tam." Even though I give the show a stinker "thumbs down," the cast was hilarious and totally entertaining during the panel. To read some of the highlights and to catch a trailer of the show just

On the fun they have behind the scenes: "Thomas comes in each morning wearing sunglasses – even if it's raining – and rehearses as a different character, not as John Connor. It makes the directors nervous."
Writer Josh Freidman on convincing producers to bring a Reese back from the dead: "I was sitting in a coffee shop with James Middleton, and I was like, "Dude! I know what I'm gonna do - I'm gonna bring Kyle Reese back" and he said, "You're gonna get Fu**ing killed!" I had this whole thing worked out and he was looking at me like I was crazy. So I was like, "How 'bout his brother?" and he said "Oh, that would be good."
Josh Freidman's ideal tag line for the show: "The Ultimate Nuclear Family."
Brian Austin Green on if he thought writer John Freidman had him in mind when writing the character: "I don't think so! I don't think he wrote the character and thought I'm gonna get Brian Austin Green for this. When I think Action, I think Brian Austin Green. Former DJ. . . Action star."
And John on hiring Brian to play Derek: "Well Brian came in to audition and just knocked it out of the park. So I sat there and thought, "Sh*t! I'm gonna hire Brian Austin Green to play this part!"
Summer on reading the show's message boards: "I can't go on the boards. . . but I let my mom send me some of the good links and she'll say "See? People like you! And I'll click on that."
Josh's reply when asked if he's heard that there's going to be a T4: "There is!?"

WonderCon 2008: Chatting With Mulder and Scully From X-Files

Day 2 of WonderCon brought one of my favorite shows back to life when thousands of X-Files fans packed Moscone south to chat with stars Gillian Anderson, my fave geeky man David Duchovny, as well as writers Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz. Indulging us with some juicy bits about the upcoming movie, their feelings about re-entering the lives of Mulder and Scully, and insights to their own upcoming projects was the highlight of the convention for yours truly.

Thankfully, I got a seat relatively early, cause the place filled up quickly! I had almost forgotten how much I loved the show, and by the looks of things the new movie - due out this July - will be a hit with the fans. Fans which lined-up by the hundreds to ask the stars and writers some burning questions.

When asked why the X-Files sequel is worth the wait, Chris Carter says that "It will scare the pants off you. And you'll get to see Mulder and Scully in a whole new way."
On getting back into their rolls as Mulder and Scully, Gillian said "I had a really bad first couple of days. I thought it would be easy stepping back into it. But I sucked. I just sucked. It was harder than I thought."
David agreed by saying, "I felt the same way. I thought it was going to be simple, like I can do this. But it was hard."
When asked if there were any narratives or themes that she would have like to have seen on the show, Gillian revealed that she would like to have seen Mulder explore "Auto Erotic Asphyxiation." Kinky, indeed!
Chris Carter revealed that Amanda Peet will play a FBI Secret Agent in the film, and rap artist Xzibit will play an important role as well.
Gillian's own project, "Speed of Light" is coming! She promised!

WonderCon 2008: Spicy Brown's Tofu Robot Goods

Making my way around WonderCon's expo floor was a pain in the neck - literally. I had to keep an eye out for all those awesome costumes, which meant straining my neck left and right all weekend! So it was a nice break coming across the booth of Spicy Brown - the home of these super cute Tofu Robot figures ($20) as well as some geek chic tees and accessories. I was in a geeky fashion heaven.

Their Tofu Robot line of tees was one of my faves (one even made its way to my closet - I guess I'm a sucker for astronaut robots!) but I also love the Kokeshi Ink's graphic and Japanese inspired line as well. The cool thing about Spicy Brown is they usher in new artists to design the tees and accessories so there's always something new to look at.

Power Up and 1-Up Mushroom Slippers: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

Along with all the crazy costumes and comics at WonderCon, there were some fun and interesting products, too.

Take these Super Mario Mushroom slippers for example. Personally, Mario is pretty close to my heart and I still do a little geek gasp whenever I see characters from the classic Nintendo game etched on a tee, pillow or even edibles. However, I think that if I were to sport these slippers when lounging, even my boyfriend would get a good laugh. I mean, I'm geeky and proud but . . .

First Glimpse of the X-Files 2 Teaser Trailer

Sure, this bootleg video of the X-Files 2 teaser trailer is low-quality and full of "X-phile" audience members screaming like banshees, but still - it's our first glimpse at the X-Files 2 movie! I look forward to A) a real version of the teaser trailer, and B) a full-length trailer, but for now this video - grabbed at the recent WonderCon - will have to do. WonderCon 2008: The Costumes

Comic-Con is no doubt the ultimate nerd fest, and if it had a kid sister, it would definitely be WonderCon. Taking place over the weekend here in rainy San Francisco, I was lucky enough to hang out and get an up close look at some amazing costumes, comics, and the inside scoops on some of my fave Sci-Fi shows and movies - including some deets on the new X-Files movie!
